I'm back for Day 4 of PotPieGirl's Pinterest Tips.
I don't know about YOU, but I'm having a GREAT time!
I love talking Pinterest...
and BEING on Pinterest...
and PINNING to Pinterest.
I'm a very Pinteresting person ;)
Ok, I'll quit trying to be funny - let's get to talking Pinterest.
Today's Pinterest Tip is about one of my favorite strategies.
and it really helps MY sites increase that beautiful snowball effect of Pinterest traffic.
AND increase pageviews - which is super important for those trying to qualify for a display ad company.
Now, this is a little challenging to explain by email - but I'm gonna give it a whirl.
How To 'Slant' Your Pins:
Let's say you have an existing post on your blog about....
uhhhh....about..... (she's drawing a blank lol!)
Sorry, but out of respect for the bloggers I pin for, I want to be SUPER careful about any keywords or niches I speak of.
So - based on that - let's stick with something generic.
Let's say you have an existing post that is a Chocolate Cake Recipe.
Trying to rank on Pinterest for 'chocolate cake recipe' is one tough ask lol!
So what IF you 'slant' your pin to that cake recipe to be something easier to rank for AND something that could help YOU increase pageviews?
What if you made a pin targeting...
The Best Chocolate Cakes Without Eggs
The Best Cake Ideas To Make For His Birthday
Cakes To Make For Your Best Friend's Retirement Party
(seriously, those are all off the top of my head - NO CLUE if those keywords are worth a flip - we're just brainstorming here)
In other words, we're trying to go "longtail" for your post that is currently in a very competitive space...
Or going "longtail" just to get more traffic =)
"But WAIT, Jennifer - I only have ONE cake recipe on that post! How can my post be about multiple cake ideas?"
Ah, I'm so glad you asked!
Here's the beauty of "slanting" your pins...
1 - your pin gets seen in a less competitive space and has a MUCH better chance to bring traffic to your post.
2- if your 'slanted' pin DOES bring traffic to that single cake recipe post - that's awesome!
But you know what ELSE that means?
Time for a NEW post on the topic your 'slanted' pin promised =)
If the 'slant' pin IS working - then....
Create a new post on what your slant pin promised.
Then - put a small / slightly different version of the slant pin IN your single cake recipe post down towards the bottom as a "What to read next" or related post kinda thing and LINK TO YOUR NEW POST.
If you want to be REALLY helpful, you could also put a text link in your single cake recipe post saying something like....
Looking for the best retirement cakes? that post is here {link}
Not only does your chocolate cake recipe post get more traffic, BUT you ALSO can get almost immediate page views on your new post that you published -
all because YOU tested a Slant Pin.
That's a lot to take in, I know.
Read it again and again if you need to -
because this Pinterest Tip is GOLD.
I can't begin to tell you how many NEW posts I have published on all my various blogs because I tested Slant Pins linking to other posts.
Heck, just TODAY, I tripped over a Slant Pin I made last month and it is suddenly going crazy.
In my free time, I have GOT to make a new post for it because I'm missing out on traffic.
Now I'm about to say something about this Slant Pin technique and I want you to pay attention, ok?
(I know my emails are LOTS of words - haha! but this is important)
Do you realize what you're REALLY doing when utilizing this Slant Pin technique?
You are using Pinterest as a keyword tool.
And the BEST kind of keyword tool EVER.
It's free to use and free to test -
AND you get REAL feedback to KNOW if those 'Slant' topics are things people are looking for.
Do I need to say that louder for the folks in the back? haha!
YOU ARE USING PINTEREST AS A KEYWORD TOOL.
USE Pinterest - let it help YOU figure out what content people WANT.
Test ideas and keyword phrases etc etc - if they don't work, so what?
But what if they DO work?
Nothing to lose - everything to gain.
Just a note before I am asked...
YES, I will probably start 'slanting' pins for you - but not until I am familiar with your site and I know we're both ready for it.
As bloggers, we tend to "fall in love" with our post keywords and think that's the ONLY thing that post could be about - or could be RELATED to - or could rank for.
When it comes to Pinterest, that is NOT true.
Now get out there and SLANT =)
If you're interested, here's how it works.
WHY Did I Get This Email?
If you're getting this email and really have NO clue who I am - that's all good!
