10+ new ways for teens to make money.

I finally went back and updated this roundup on ways for teens to make money. There are some new additions (and new insights added to previous additions), so check it out and let me know what you think.

I have some plans to add more information to the site around ways to make money when you're younger -- let me know if that'd be something you're interested in!

Flipping phones for cash.

Speaking of making money in high school, if you've ever resold an old phone to a friend, you've technically dipped your toes into the lucrative world of phone flipping. Here's a guide on how to take a phone flipping business to the next level.

Business Ideas and Stories 💼

Six figures in a day teaching Excel.

This is probably the most unbelievable business story I've come across.

Miss Excel (Kat Norton) was recently interviewed by The Verge and shared how she regularly earns six figures a month teaching Excel, and recently hit her first six figure day. Insane.

The thing is, teaching Microsoft Excel on the internet is nothing new. There are tons of blogs online that already do this. But Miss Excel found a way to turn it into viral content on TikTok and Instagram by dancing around and making it fun. Then, she capitalized on her virality and following by releasing a set of Excel courses that sell for $297-$997.

She says most of the course sales are now essentially passive income. She just spends time making social media videos and hosting the occasionally webinar.

What makes this most impressive is that she only started creating content in June 2020 -- a mere 18 months ago. Not only that, but she's essentially a one-person business, with only a VA to help with some graphic design for her Instagram posts.

This once again goes to show that the power of social media can be insane when it's used correctly -- even for potentially boring subjects like Excel!

🤔 I wonder what other topics/skills could be taught in a similar way to produce virality and course sales...

Speaking of virality, Miss Excel attributes a lot of her success to things like meditation, mindfulness, and manifestation. She uses those things to build confidence and bring as much magnetic energy as possible into her videos.

If you want to learn more, I highly recommend reading her full interview

What does your $10k/month business do?

Some of the replies in this Reddit thread are jokes, but others give some good insight into functional and profitable businesses. Great for potential ideas.

One of my favorites:

Web development. I have 0 employees, I code everything myself and have designers and backend developers paid as contractors when I need them.

Web dev work has brought in about $120k this year, almost no overhead since most of the work was designed and coded by me minus a couple big projects. So maybe $100k profit. It’s residual income as well. I’m a website subscription model and have monthly paying Clients. So I don’t need to make a sale to make thousands every month. It’s pretty chill.

The same Redditor even breaks down how he finds clients in a separate comment

MANAGE MONEY

Tips and Tricks 💡

Set a money goal and once you hit it, never dip under it.

A great and simple money tip from Twitter:

Start with $10,000
Meaning if you only have $10,006

You’re broke and you only have $6

Then move to $25k, then $50k, then 100k then 250k and keep going

The most important number in personal finance: enough.

Another great tip from Twitter. Goals are great to have, but chasing a goal that never stops moving can become dangerous pretty quickly.

Do you know how much your "enough" is?

A Word From Nordpass 🔑

Just like you should manage your money well, you should also manage your passwords well. This may seem like common knowledge at this point, but over 100 million people are still using the password "123456" so, if that's you, well, please change that.

With a password manager like Nordpass you can generate unique and secure passwords automatically. Because weak passwords or duplicated passwords could put things like your money -- or worse, your Netflix account -- at risk.
