Active vs Passive Voice
Great authors feature a variety of sentence structures in their work; but if you read closely, you'll notice they write most sentences in active voice where the subject of the sentence performs the action. In passive voice, the subject receives the action. Active voice gets to the point, streamlines sentences, and creates excitement. When editing, keep an eye out for the word, "was." When you see one, try flipping the sentence to eliminate it.
Examples: Passive: The Demons Among Us was published by Redemption Press. Active: Redemption Press published The Demons Among Us.
Passive: Miriam was hit by the baseball. Active: The baseball hit Miriam.
