Greetings everyone!
I hope you had a great week! The gif this week is two-fold.
The first reason being, my husband had a rare afternoon off, so while our kiddo was at daycare, we went to see the new Super Mario movie! It was a deluge of nostalgia, and the Mario Kart Rainbow Road scene was among my favorite.
The second reason is because this week, the Rainbow Vinyl colorway is back, and this year Timeless Trends is donating all proceeds to charities that protect and rescue LGBTQ individuals from persecution.
One of the charities is called Rainbow Railroad, and when I first heard about it, it immediately resonated. Homosexuality is still illegal in 72 countries, and Rainbow Railroad helps LGBTQI folks find safety from their home countries.
This hits close to my heart, because:
- one of my husband's friends right here in Chicago applied for amnesty because he's a gay atheist (both of which are illegal in Turkiye)
- my mom's brother-in-law was murdered in Jamaica for being gay, and the authorities turned a blind eye to the case
- I have other close friends and family right now in 2023, who are queer and are still being ostracized, relentlessly bullied by peers, dehumanized by older generations, denied access into certain spaces... and these marginalized friends have the softest, kindest hearts who don't deserve this prejudice. It's gross. It's nasty. It's heartbreaking. It's infuriating. One family friend who was bi took her life a few years back. I never want that to happen again. I wouldn't wish that kind of pain on my worst enemy.
It doesn't have to be personal. You don't have to know someone with a life-threatening case of "queerness at the wrong place / time" in order for a cause to be meaningful or supported. But in my case, it is incredibly meaningful, and that's why I'm matching TT's contribution - all profits of rainbow corsets will go to charity this month. 💖
