Welcome to April’s newsletter. What a month it has been for technology and media news?! Yes it’s Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter that has dominated the news. Whilst Twitter may not affect the lives of most it does have a huge affect on the media and what we therefore see on TV and radio. This could be a big shake up of ‘big tech’ and it’s really interesting to see unfold, what are people’s thoughts?
Also, in this era of ‘fake news’ what did you think of the Trump and Piers Morgan interview? Who is telling the truth? Did Trump storm out or was this all an over dramatised stunt by Morgan and his new Murdoch-owned TalkTV channel? A little off piste start to the newsletter from the usual recruitment and DevOps talk but fascinating, nonetheless. Always keen to get people’s thoughts on the ongoing dramas!
Something which I found interesting recently was Boris Johnson celebrating “500,000 more people in paid employment now than there were before the pandemic began”. On the face of it, really great news. But it appears the claim is a little misleading as it doesn’t consider the big drop in the number of self-employed people. So whilst, the number of people on payrolls has increased, the overall number of people in employment has actually fallen. From our first-hand experience on the ground of the talent market however, it does remain incredibly difficult to hire new staff.
I would like to wish a Happy Eid to our Muslim readers, have a fun weekend with your celebrations and I am sure we are all looking forward to the bank holiday weekend (they’re a bit like buses at the minute!)
As always, if you want to talk to me about the market, DevOps trends, etc. do not hesitate to get in touch, it would be great to hear from you. Book a call with me here
