Thank You from The Open University
Nursing Employers quarterly newsletter, January 2020

To our nursing partners,

As the new year beckons, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on 2020 and say Thank You.

Despite the challenges, pressure on resources and limited placement capacity, we are so pleased that most of our students have been able to continue their programme and emerge with great achievements - which simply would not have been possible without you, our partners.

It’s been a testing year for healthcare practice, but the inspiring work from health professionals across the UK, and beyond, has been courageous. We feel privileged to work alongside our employer partners as we educate and develop a relentlessly caring workforce.

This year has certainly been tough, but there are many reasons to celebrate.

As the new academic year started, we were pleased to welcome our new Head of School, Professor Sam Baron to the School of Health, Wellbeing and Social Care.

We are incredibly proud to report that the majority of our BSc (Hons) Nursing students completing at the end of the academic year 2019/2020 were able to graduate and register with the NMC – here are the results all wrapped up:

In October, we launched our brand-new Future Nurse curriculum with an innovative integration of enquiry-based learning. We successfully recruited to all four fields of nursing: Adult, Children and Young People, Learning Disabilities and Mental Health.

In its infancy, course evolution and enhancements are critical to improve both the employer and student experience. We’d like to thank you for your commitment, encouragement and invaluable feedback so far, as we implement our new programme.

We’re currently collating some FAQs to be published early next year. In the meantime, if you need further information about any of our nursing programmes please contact your local Staff Tutor.

A final note

In what really has been a challenging year, thank you for supporting your Nursing students, who’ve shown wholehearted dedication in developing their skills whilst continuing to work through a demanding period.

From all of us here, we wish you, your colleagues, and families, a joyful festive season and a Happy New Year.

Best Wishes

Janet Webb
