Dear USET/USET SPF Family,
USET is committed to providing pertinent information to USET member Tribal Nations for safe and efficient operations. The purpose of this alert is to bring awareness of a national data breach impacting a vendor that many Tribal Nations utilize.
Henry Schein, the producers of the Dentrix Dental Management system and supplier for medical equipment and supplies, that is used at several Tribal health centers, was subject to a cyber attack on October 14, 2023. During that attack, hackers were able to steal over 35 TB (Terabytes) of company information and place ransomware software on the company’s files, including Henry Schein’s payroll data and shareholder information. USET was made aware of this breach on November 6, 2023, and understand that communications between Henry Schein's hired cybersecurity and forensic information technology experts and the hackers are ongoing.
The impact on Tribal Nations is uncertain at this date. A statement issued by Henry Schein relayed that software systems within Henry Schein One, which includes the Dentrix Software Package, doesn’t appear to be impacted, however, the breadth of the data stolen is still unknown.
USET will continue to closely monitor this breach with utmost priority and provide further updates as received. For further questions, please contact Mark Withers, USET IT Manager, at mwithers@usetinc.org or Onawa Miller, THPS Director at omiller@usetinc.org
