Poland, Lithuania add brigades near US presence to reinforce border with Russia

Poland and Lithuania each have agreed to dedicate brigades to a swath of land where U.S. troops also have been dispatched to strengthen allied defenses near Russia.

The two neighbors held their first bilateral defense council meeting to address joint concerns about air defenses, military mobility and the reinforcement of Poland’s Suwalki Gap, the Lithuanian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

More countries participate in international cyber exercise


A NATO-accredited entity said they reached new levels of cooperation during the organization’s annual cyber exercise, an event that combined technical skills with kinetic force and the input of Cyber Commands’ members.

This year, over 120 technical experts, Special Forces and military operators worked to test the skills needed to execute a cyber operation, including the testing of offensive cyber capabilities.

First Lithuanian-Polish Defence Council to be held in Vilnius


Minister of National Defence of Lithuania Raimundas Karoblis and Minister of National Defence of Poland Mariusz Błaszczak will discuss concrete steps to strengthen regional – security cooperation of the respective armed forces on ensuring defendability of the Suwalki Gap, possibilities to integrate national airspace and defence systems, and the need to retain a continuous U.S. presence in the region – at the first meeting as the Lithuanian-Polish Defence Council in Vilnius.

The President and the First Lady honored the Holocaust victims in Poland


President Gitanas Nausėda and First Lady Diana Nausėdienė are on a visit to Oswiecim in Poland, to attend the commemoration of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp. The ceremony held in tribute to the  victims was attended by state and international organization-leaders, including leaders of 50 countries, members of royalty, representatives of governments as well as ambassadors.

Technology Developers Have Created 7 Innovative Products at Open Data Hackathon


During the hackathon “Hacker Games. Open Data”, 50 tech enthusiasts formed teams and, using the opened up data of the public sector, created 7 innovative products. The tourism promotion, pupil engagement and university search products were recognized as the products with the greatest potential.

During the 48-hour hackathon, the participants had to develop innovative products or services to solve the problems of Vilnius city or, based on open data from institutions, they had to raise problems by themselves and to find solutions for them.

Zebriunas’ film “The Girl and the Echo” to be screened in France


Arūnas Žebriūnas’ film The Girl and the Echo (1964) was acquired for distribution in France. This is second restored Lithuanian classic film to be screened in French cinemas, Lithuanian film center informs.

The Lithuanian Film Center has extended cooperation with French distribution company ED Distribution by signing an agreement for the distribution of the film in all French-speaking territories in Europe. In 2018, ED Distribution acquired distribution rights for Žebriūnas’ film The Beauty (lit. Gražuolė, 1969).

Lithuania's capital city Vilnius has been named as the healthiest in the region of Central–Eastern Europe.

Recent analysis by Treated.com, a UK-based health consultancy, has found that Vilnius ranks seventh of Europe’s 46 capitals, the Lithuanian city securing 169 points (the less points a city received, the healthier it is), scoring best in Central–Eastern Europe in terms of air quality and the highest in the continent in offering its residents high-quality green spaces.
