Kia ora JC whānau,
It’s been a sad week here at the Club with the passing of some much loved, respected and valued members of our whānau. Jack Feeney, Rachel MacLeod and Haydn Smith you will be missed and our thoughts and condolences go out to Jack’s closest friends – especially Wayne and Merrin who shouldered the majority of care and responsibility for Jack and getting him to the Club as recently as St Paddy’s Day; Sheyne MacLeod; and the Smith whānau and wider softball community. Kia kaha, Kia māia, Kia manawanui – Be strong, Be brave, Be steadfast in this difficult time. Your Club whānau are here to support you so please do reach out.
It’s hard to think of positives after such a tragic week but there are a few. We kicked off our Thursday night Believe It or Not Quiz events last week with a fantastic 9 teams. Congratulations to the winners and thanks to everyone who took part. We do it all again this Thursday (ANZAC Day) from 7:30pm. Lessons have been learned, and with the help of some volunteer markers, we should improve on our time and look to have the quiz done and dusted by 9:30pm at the latest. As a warm-up, come down to Coggies Quiz tomorrow night to get you in the groove.
A fun night was had at our 74th Birthday Party on Saturday night. Cam and Sam – Dueling Pianos rocked the tunes and a big thanks and job well done to Mark Eades for the decorations, ably assisted by Lisa. Your efforts were very much appreciated. I’m told the cake went down a treat and a big thank you to Jill Tait for her mahi in decorating it, and then having the honour of cutting it. We also presented long term membership badges for 25, 40 and 50 years of continuous membership. Congratulations to those who were presented (the full list is available on the website) with their respective badges and thank you for your continued membership and support.
The Member’s Draw is getting up there, $1800 up for grabs on Thursday meaning it will either be a must-go $2000 draw on Saturday……or must-go $200. A reminder if it is $2,000 on Saturday and it isn’t struck first, the pool will be divided into 4 equal amounts and drawn until winners are found.
A reminder the Club is open from 1pm this Thursday, ANZAC Day and we look forward to seeing you then for the Members Draw and following into the BIO Quiz. In the meantime, stay safe, stay warm and dry and stay in touch with YOUR Club and your friends and whānau.
Ngā mihi nui, Barry
