ANP Politics welcomes two significant reports on the state of food and health in the UK. Firstly, a House of Lords (HOL) report from the Food, Diet and Obesity Committee entitled: Recipe for health: a plan to fix our broken food system, House of Lords Report 2024 and secondly, the Food Farming and Countryside Commission (FFCC) report on the costs of ultra processed foods (UPFs) entitled ‘The False Economy of Big Food’. The HoL report strongly criticises the role of the food industry for the current state of the nation’s health. The FFCC study finds that UPFs cost the UK economy £268billion per year in direct health costs and lost productivity. We currently live in a culture where the individual is blamed for poor food choices and the consequent effect on their health. These reports make clear what we as health practitioners already know: our food industry is making us ill. 

ANP Politics encourages you to read more here and to write to your MP in support of the recommendations of the HoL report. The recommendations are strong and backed by research, but will face considerable resistance from the food industry. ANP will pressure the Department of Health to adopt as many of the recommendations as possible.

Last Wednesday we had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Jenny Goodman, author of Getting Healthy in Toxic Times.

For nearly an hour, Dr. Goodman answered our questions with warmth and depth. She walked us through her process of gathering insights, speaking to experts, and ensuring every page was packed with real-world solutions. She unpacked the science behind chelators and binders (if you’re unfamiliar, they’re fascinating!) and gave practical advice on supporting health amid modern toxic exposures. She also delved into testing methods, including hair mineral analysis and fat testing, sharing recommendations for reputable suppliers to ensure reliable results. Her passion for empowering practitioners radiated through every answer, leaving us inspired, informed, and equipped with actionable tools for our work.
