We're delighted that the Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Path will be officially re-opened to the community on 5 December, on the fifth anniversary of Storm Desmond.
The work to repair and reconnect the Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Trail has been a lengthy and expensive process. The damage caused to the trail was extensive: two bridges and around two hundred metres of path were washed away completely, and a third bridge had to be closed due to the extent of the damage.
Both bridges have been replaced, a new section of path has been created to replace the section that was washed away and most exciting of all Bobbin Mill Tunnel has been excavated, some forty years after it was filled in, to replace the boardwalk section that had become unsafe.
The trail is fully accessible for wheelchair and restricted mobility users and there will be plenty of spots to sit and enjoy the views as well as information and interpretation panels covering subjects such as nature, history and the railway itself.
