Merry Christmas from St. Andrew's - December 23, 2020
Did you see the “Christmas Star” that was visible on the 21st of December? As I imagine most of you know the “star’ is actually the close conjunction of two planets, Saturn and Jupiter. This will be the closest the two planets will come since 1623, making it a remarkable ending to a remarkable year. Does this celestial convergence bear good tidings? I’m going to throw my lot in with the optimists and say “yes!”
This week we celebrate the emergence of another star, one that, long ago, lit the skies to announce the coming of a savior, an infant child. This child, born to a poor family in the middle of nowhere, would grow up to teach of the coming kingdom; he would heal many and offer light and hope to all. What a gift that, as we struggle to emerge from such difficult circumstances, the heavens, once again, present a star to remind us that we are not alone. God is with us.
That is good tidings indeed. While our troubles have not disappeared, we are not without hope---hope from the past, hope in the present, and hope for the future.
Look to the light!
Be sure to "tune in" tomorrow evening to our Christmas Eve service and see many of our members say "Merry Christmas" in their short, sweet videos that they sent in!
Brad & Dorothy Naegle Scholarship
To St. Andrew’s Members,
We are so fortunate that Brad and Dorothy Naegle, long time members at St. Andrew’s, upon their passing, left a generous donation to our church. As part of their legacy, they allocated funds for a postsecondary scholarship to be awarded to a member of St. Andrew’s. This year, we expect this award to be in excess of $7,000.
This scholarship is being administered through the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara. Therefore, any member interested in being considered for this funding must apply through the Foundation and the Foundation will make all decisions regarding the awarding of this scholarship. In accordance with the Naegle’s wishes, preference will be given to a student seeking to study education, music, or a church/seminary related field.
Please be aware that the deadline for applying is January 15, 2021. Applicants must complete the online General Scholarship Program application. Applications are available at www.sbscholarship.org. For additional information, contact the Scholarship Foundation at (805) 687-6065 or email@example.com.
