We would like to take the time in our newsletter to honor our veterans for their service.

To all veterans of all branches and especially the members/supporters of the Mary S. Harrell Black Heritage Museum: Thank you for your sacrifice, your bravery, and the example you set for us all. Thank you for your service!

Mark Your Calendar: We are hosting our Annual Meet and Greet, November 14, 2021, 2:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. An outdoor event on the lawn of the museum! Save the date and bring your family and friends.

The wood fence around the Heritage House installed by the Board of Directors and other volunteers in 2003 was replaced with a new vinyl one in October.

On Make a Difference Day on October 23, maintenance and repairs were made on the building and grounds. Work is needed on the ceilings of the interior walls due to the roof leaks. Plans to replace the roof are underway.

Landscape improvements were made on the museum grounds. Plants donated by Lindley's Nursery.

During the board meeting of October 14, Linda Herring was elected as secretary of the Board of Directors. Replacing Patricia Kershner who retired in October. 

Linda, who is the Assistant Executive Director will serve in both positions until an Assistant Director is appointed. 

Volunteering your time and talents are ways to support the museum and help preserve our local history. Help is needed in the following areas: 

1. Displaying artifacts & making exhibits accessible to the public. (no prior experience needed)

2. Help organize our collection of materials, including cataloging of books and artifacts. (computer skills are needed)

3. Tour guides to assist with individual and group tours. (cheat sheets are available)

4. Special events volunteers. (training will be provided)
