The lake property owners certainly receive benefit and will need to pay an assessment, but should not have to pay for all.
The counties have acknowledged the benefit, and we are constructively working to understand their role in supporting the Four Lakes community, but FLTF also recognizes there are significant demands on the county budgets beyond the lakes. We do not expect the counties to make a decision any more than we expect the property owners to until after we present the overall plan in May
The State of Michigan benefits and it has acknowledged this through allocations of funds to help recover from the dam failures and restore the lakes. Our elected representatives are aware and understand the need for more funds to reach a point where every lake can finance the construction to restore the dams and lakes
The federal government has supported the recovery through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service and has given FLTF a path for long-term financing. We believe they have an obligation to support us in restoration given the past federal control of these dams. That being said, there are no obvious large grants, but we are engaged with congressional delegates to find federal funds to help the community find a more affordable path to restore its future
My parcel has the wrong name on it. What should I do?
Please contact your township assessor to correct the ownership information for the parcel.
I have more than one parcel in the same subdivision but under different names - why do both have an assessment?
Contact your township assessor and ask to get the properties under the same name then ask for documentation from the assessor demonstrating that the owner's name is corrected. Please send this documentation to FLTF. After receiving this we will change the assessment amount.
I received a note saying that engineers would edit the SAD map but it still says the same thing.
The map is not updated daily. Information on the pop-ups is updated every few weeks and the parcel lines/boundaries are updated every few months so you may not see changes immediately.
I have a waterfront lot and backlot in the same subdivision. The backlot appears to have a $50 assessment. Shouldn't it be $0?
Yes. If you think the SAD map is incorrect please email FLTF with your name, parcel ID and issue and we will send it to engineers to get it fixed.
I have more/less frontage than what the map says.
If you think your frontage factor is wrong, email FLTF with your name, parcel ID and issue and we will work with the engineers to get it fixed.
