New opportunities in Austria, Estonia and Jerusalem
Within the JOIN Volunteer Swap programme, you can now join new events and activities in Austria, Estonia, and Jerusalem. Johanniter Austria offers eight opportunities for volunteers, both in social fields such as helping in a homeless shelter and medical activities like patient transport and ambulance service. The St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital offers medical students the opportunity to collect practical experiences in a short-term placement at the hospital, including mobile outreach clinics to the various areas of the West Bank. In Estonia, a summer camp for Estonians with disabilities is organised in July by our Dutch, Finnish, German, and Swedish members together with the Estonian St John organisation. Any socially committed St John volunteer can participate in this annual camp without first aid training. Have a look at the Volunteer Swap site for all details and find the perfect opportunity for you.

Despite the sequels of the pandemic, in 2021 all the hostels remained open for the full year, and development continued: Saint-Jean France has recently opened a new hostel in Montpellier associated with the Cancer Institute. Our French member now offers families of patients and out-patients 123 rooms and 234 beds in five hostels in and around Paris and four more linked to the university hospitals of Nantes, Bordeaux, and Lyon.
