Shaping the Future of HEInnovate: the Expert Group Convenes in Brussels

This month, HEInnovate's Expert Group convened at the European Commission in Brussels for its third meeting, bringing together leading voices in higher education, innovation and entrepreneurship. Introduced by DG EAC and the OECD, the meeting covered platform updates, a review of the self-assessment framework, and a rich exchange of experiences from the past year's activities. Closing remarks confirmed HEInnovate's integration in the next Erasmus+ programme cycle - a strong signal of the direction of travel.

From Theory to Action: HEInnovate Takes the Regional Innovation Challenge to Osijek

📍 24 April 2026 | RED 2026 Conference, Osijek, Croatia

At the RED 2026 Conference in Osijek, HEInnovate facilitated a 90-minute workshop bringing together 24 researchers, higher education professionals and regional stakeholders, many encountering the framework for the very first time. Facilitated by Flávia Colus and Debora Cogliano (PPMI), participants worked with fictional institutional profiles, self-assessment results and Action Cards to design concrete responses to real-world scenarios, leaving with practical tools and a clearer sense of how to apply HEInnovate in their own contexts.

Welcome to the Family: UK and Switzerland to Join Erasmus+

The United Kingdom and Switzerland are both set to join the Erasmus+ programme as of 1 January 2027, participating on the same footing as EU Member States and opening new doors for cross-border collaboration in education and research. For the HEInnovate community, this means more institutions, more perspectives, and more opportunities to connect, learn and drive change together.

📖 Case Study - Making Entrepreneurship Education More Inclusive: The ACCENT Project

Who gets access to entrepreneurship support in higher education, and who gets left behind? This new case study explores how the ACCENT project, an Erasmus+ partnership between the University of Cologne, the University of Granada, and the University of Pavia, tackled that question head on, developing practical responses to the barriers faced by international and refugee students and women entrepreneurs.

The result: a compelling model for cross-institutional collaboration, combining thematic handbooks, training materials, and train-the-trainer formats to strengthen support pathways and build more inclusive, internationally connected entrepreneurship ecosystems.
