I N V I T A T I O N

Dear Friends,

We are delighted to invite you to the opening of Italian contemporary artist Roberta Busato's new solo exhibition, entitled Intimate Mythologies, guiding the visitor towards the artist’s inner cosmos, constellated by enigmatic and magnetic sculptures in agate and white alabaster. This event will be held on the occasion of The Red Night, the beautiful cultural night in Volterra.

INTIMATE MYTHOLOGIES, Chapter I

ROBERTA BUSATO | SCULPTURE

September 2025 - January 2026

KALPA Gallery, Palazzo Bonomini, Volterra

Opening:  13 September 2025 | 9 pm -11 pm

Intimate Mythologies brings together key alabaster works from Roberta Busato's most significant series of the last years, from 2021 to the present day. Nuances of the Volterra stone are rediscovered and enhanced, balancing a dance of formal and informal representations, transparent and opaque surfaces, concave and convex parts. Mythological stories of imagined creatures and spirits who live between worlds and time resonate perfectly with Busato’s vision, which blurs the boundaries between the humans, animals, and nature. In a delicate conversation between finished and unfinished forms, each sculpture features a combination of the anthropomorphic and surreal elements, inhabiting a liminal space. Within this threshold, all hybridizations and inner metamorphoses can occur, a fertile ground where the process of change unfolds and is completed.

Rooted in a ritual, sacred, and archetypal dimension, Busato’s creative process centers on the care of the self and the powerful practice of self-awareness, being the cornerstone of both a personal journey and a deeply felt collective necessity. Her sculptures and bas-reliefs become the language of the soul, expressing the inexpressible, resulting from a deep meditative journey to the abysses of the self.

Roberta Busato (Verona, 1976)

After graduating in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara in 2004 under Omar Galliani, Roberta Busato embarked on a multidisciplinary path. Her early years were marked by a pivotal collaboration with the "Societas Raffaello Sanzio," a period of intense research that saw her blend drawing, painting, video, and performance. This rich, cross-disciplinary foundation led her to the creation of three-dimensional sculptural works.

The artist creates compelling figures using a variety of natural materials, compounds of straw and grass, carved dried earth, and precious alabaster from Volterra. Extensively exhibited since 2000, Busato’s recent shows include the site-specific installation of Testa d’Argilla in Lana, 2025; the group show La Collina Sale Sempre, promoted by Artefora in the Langhe area in 2025; Kairos in Milan and Who Killed Bambi in Casso, promoted by Dolomiti Contemporanee in 2022. Her work has also been presented at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, The Others Art fair (Artissima, Turin, 2019), Henraux Foundation (Querceta, Lucca, 2019), and Oliver Gustav Studio (Copenhagen, 2018).
