This morning as we celebrate our church Homecoming Day, and salute our youth throughout the month of August, we take a look at how the Bible talks about some homecomings – individual, national, and worldwide and the young people who played a role in them.
(Luke 15:11-32)
Once Jesus told a parable about a prodigal son who came home. In the parable, the son had to make the decision to come home, but the emphasis of the story must be upon the Father. While the son was a long way off the Father was compassionately and eagerly looking for him. And then the most astounding thing took place - the Father ran to the son, wept and kissed him. It was Homecoming Day for the prodigal son; and the best robe, the ring, the sandals, the fatted calf, and the celebration were his because the Father loved him.
(Jeremiah 25:8-14)
The Bible also records another homecoming, in the history of the nation of Israel. After spending 70 years in captivity under the Babylonian Empire, God said it was time for them to go home. In a clear message, the prophet Jeremiah spelled out God’s judgment upon Israel but then he prophesied that they would eventually go back home. This is what the Lord says: ‘When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back to this place – home (Jere. 29:10). That home-coming is recorded in the Old Testament books of Ezra and Nehemiah.
(1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)
However, the greatest Homecoming Day yet awaits us, young and old. One day, along with a trumpet call, there will be a loud voice which shouts, “It’s time to come home!” Past and present family members will be called. The Bible says that one day Jesus Christ is going to come back and gather all believers (those who are alive and those who have died in Christ) to meet Him in the air. It will be “the greatest of all reunions”!
Our earthly Homecoming Day today will truly be a memorable occasion. To God Be The Glory that it is a sweet time of fellowship and joy with past and present members of the church who travel from near and far. We’re forever grateful that friendships formed throughout the years are cemented in Christian love and deeply rooted in church family memories created and united by our spirit filled love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Today, we celebrated our Homecoming and Rally Day and it was truly a blessing! It was so nice to have family and friends from near and far worshiping together with one accord. Young and old, saved and unsaved, members and visitors, all praising our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
The choir led us in songs of praise with “All In His Hands,” “Jesus Will Fix It,” “I Shall Wear A Crown,” “More Than Anything,” and “No Greater Love.”
The morning message, “Love Him More” was brought by Rev. Roosevelt Zanders of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Shellman, Georgia. He encouraged and challenged us to never forget…“God’s been good to us!”

Our Homecoming afternoon was filled with love and grace as we traveled to Clay City, Ky to worship with West Bend Baptist Church, Rev John Clark Taylor, Pastor. It was their 100th Church Anniversary! The West Bend members served us a delicious meal with dishes too numerous to list. Our own Pastor Calvin Shears truly blessed us with a Word from God, "If Bones Could Talk" using Ezekiel 37:1-3 as his text.

Kentucky Coronavirus Monitoring
On May 11, 2023, the federal public health emergency for COVID-19 officially ended. The Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH) has worked closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Kentucky local health departments to fold COVID-19 response activities into existing programs; therefore, some data metrics have been modified or discontinued. KDPH will continue to monitor COVID-19 data and communicate important updates necessary for protecting the health of Kentuckians.
