KPS WEEKEND AWAY - FRI 24TH - SUN 26TH MARCH 2023 (2 NIGHTS)
We are inviting expressions of interest from KPS members who would like to join the KPS March Weekend Away - Fri 24 Mar 2023 - Sun 26 Mar 2023. We will be exploring Inverloch, Cape Paterson & the beautiful Bass Surf Coast beyond. We will be staying slightly inland in Wonthaggi, as we were unable to find available accommodation that would suit our club. Wonthaggi has a lot to discover and photograph too!The holiday park has a mixture of cabins, glamping pods & caravan/camping sites. However, you need to respond quickly as there are only limited spots for 28 - 30 people max. If you are bringing a caravan/tent you will be fine!
Please click this link - Expressions of Interest Form to ensure you don't miss out.
A huge thanks to Therese P for working on this for KPS.

Wednesday the 9th saw an opportunity for photographers around the world to spend yet more money with upgrades to both Capture One, now on v.23, and Affinity Photo with V2 beng released.
For an unspecified period, Affinity Photo v2 is available at 40% off the new (increased, naturally) regular price of AU$109.99 so you pay AU$64.99 (or you can buy a cross platform bundle of three programs for AU$159.99).
For those amongst us who don't like the subscription model, Affinity Photo is definitely a viable option to Adobe which is currently AU$14.29 per month for their 'Photography' bundle.
There are also numerous other options, both free and payable, just search for photo editing software or similar.

A Great Job!
Just a shout out to Sandra and Fiona who regularly do a great job setting up the gear for our after meeting cuppas. I thought they did an especially good job last night, thank you ladies!

Talking of great jobs, Matt Krumins did a great job last night talking about black and white photography. Not only was he entertaining but informative and very personable, everything one wants in a presenter. We almost ran out of chairs for Matts presentation. Matt runs classes on many apsects of photography so if you are interested please take a look at his website. https://mattkruminsphotography...
|
|
|
|
Matt showed us how to get a dramatic sky in black and white images using Lightroom where he used the very clever new AI masking in LR. The example below was done in Capture One by converting the image to B&W then using the Blue and Cyan sliders to darken the sky, no masking required.
Your software should have similar functionality so look for the sliders under B&W and have a play, if Matt's presentation has engendered renewed interest in B&W.

Last July, a number of KPS members visited the Mornington Railway Preservation Society at their base at Moorooduc Station where many images were captured by KPS.
We have been remarkably slack in asking members for images to send to the MRPS as a gesture of appreciation for the great hospitality we were shown.
Coud you please find some images that you think they may like and send, via www.wetransfer.com , to president@knoxcameraclub.org and I will send them on to the MRPS.
Preferably full size jpegs, saved at 80% or above, Adobe RGB colour space, with whatever tweaking you think appropriate.
Thank you.

It's time to enter the Paul Burke Award via our VP website.
Images need to be in by mid November.
This is our Popular Choice where members vote on their favourite images.
Here are the criteria for entering:
Members may enter ONE image taken in calendar year 2022. It does not have to have been entered in any competitions/evaluations. Members can vote for up to two images; each vote carries the same weight. Members are unable to vote for their own entry. The winning entry will be the image that gets the most member votes.
Remember to enter, remember to vote.

KPS panel judges Rosanna EoY |
|
Last
Sunday, a panel of KPS members judged the Rosanna EoY competition. It
was a very good experience for the members, especially those that
have participated in the APJA (Judging) training courses. Included
Anna, Richard, Carmel, Robyn and Rob. We got to sort through some
great images. You may remember that it was Rosanna that won the KPS
Mono interclub this year. As Rosanna members do not know the results Rob
has done some almost imperceptible editing to obscure the image in our shot above.

Phil's Dad Jokes
Dave had just received his new hearing aid and was sitting outside trying it out when his neighbour popped his head over the fence. “How are you Dave?” the neighbour asked. Dave replied: “I just bought a new hearing aid. It cost me four thousand dollars, but it’s state of the art. It’s perfect.” “Really?” the neighbour answered with an impressed smile. “What kind is it?” “Twelve thirty.”
A lady is having a bad day at the table in the casino. Down to her last $100, completely exasperated, she cries: “What rotten luck! What in the world should I do now?” A man next to her, trying to calm her down a bit, calmly suggests: “Why don’t you play your age?” He walks away. Moments later, he hears a great commotion at the roulette table. He thinks maybe she finally won. He rushes back to the table and pushes his way through the crowd. He is stunned to see the lady lying on the floor with the table operator kneeling over her. He asks: “What happened? Is she all right?” “I don’t know,” the table operator answers. “She put everything on number 50 and when 66 came up, she screamed and then fainted.”
An elderly lady boarded a very crowded bus and, as all the seats were taken, she stood in the middle. A young man began to get up but she shook her head and gently sat him back down. “No thank you, sonny, I can stand,” she said. A few moments later he tried to rise again. “No, no, thank you!” she said pushing him back again, a bit more forcefully this time. The man let out an audible groan and finally piped up: “Please let me get up, lady. I’m already two blocks past my stop now.”
Not content with us having to put with his Jokes, Phil even has his 22 year old grandson Zem contributiong now:
'I was feeling cold so, I went and stood in the corner where it was 90 degrees'
