Farewell from the USC Alumni Club of San Gabriel Valley

Dear USC Alumni and Friends of USC Alumni Club of San Gabriel Valley,

We hope that you and your family are safe and well during these very trying times of COVID 19, quarantining and the civil unrest that has unfolded.

On behalf of the current board of the USC Alumni Club of San Gabriel Valley, I wanted to bring you up-to-date on changes that will affect the current model of our Alumni Club.  I also want to assure you that we are working closely with the USC Alumni Association (USCAA) to make this transition successful.

As you know, the USCAA's mission has always been to engage alumni lifelong and worldwide.   To further that mission, the USCAA has decided that they will be disbanding the Alumni Clubs and Chapters model, effective July 1, 2020, and moving to more a broad-based volunteer model that will allow more alumni to easily get involved with the University while connecting with Trojans locally.

As a result,  we will discontinue using this email listserv on June 30, and encourage you all to stay connected with fellow Trojans and Alumni Near You by:

  • Updating your alumni profile on Fight Online
  • Volunteering for or hosting a Trojan Family gathering e.g. Alumni Day of SCervice, Welcome ReSCeption, etc.
  • Creating an Alumni Meet-Up  e.g. a local hike, Night at the Museum, networking mixer, etc.

The USCAA also encourages you to continue following their Facebook Page and joining one of the affiliated groups to post, comment, like and share more local news, events and announcements.

The USC Alumni Club of San Gabriel Valley has been around for over 36 years, providing a platform for alumni in the San Gabriel Valley to become engaged. We have gone through many transitions but the primary mission of engaging and re-engaging our alumni who reside in the San Gabriel Valley has always driven our efforts.  In addition, the mission of raising funds to provide scholarships for students who come from our geographic area has provided a tremendous sense of pride for our club.   We thank you for helping us raise scholarship funds that has allowed us to provide scholarships to several very exemplary students attending USC who reside in the San Gabriel Valley area.

We understand that this news may be disappointing, but the USCAA believes that this new opportunity will align the alumni experience with the direction of the University and the promise of the Trojan Family, that will be vital to sustaining the rapid growth and deepening the impact of the alumni for the next generation of Trojans.

I am sure that you will continue to see fellow alumni over the next year, either virtually or in-person, and I thank you on behalf of the Board of the USC Alumni Club of San Gabriel Valley for being such a strong supporter of our Club’s activities and of the University.  If you would like to learn more about the regional model and how you can become involved in the future, please attend a virtual Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, June 23 at 3 p.m. PDT by registering here.

Stay well and Fight On,

Yulanda N. Davis-Quarrie
