Hey {Name},
The first email of the course and you already think I made a mistake! Sure your name isn't {Name}, but it's fun to start off in a playful way. It sets the tone!
Another thing you might notice about this email is that it is completely devoid of anything spunky. No HTML, images, social icons, logos, color... all the stuff that makes it clear that you're inside MY brand is missing. And that is intentional.
The very first email in your course should try to accomplish three things:
-
Give yourself the best chance to land in the primary inbox
-
Get the reader to permanently assign you to the primary inbox
-
Get the reader to click something to start the course
By keeping it simple with a plain text email and using their name in the intro, you have a pretty decent shot at landing in the primary inbox. It's not guaranteed, so I'd suggest sprinkling in little additional suggestions at the Checkout or Confirmation pages (as you probably noticed during your own journey to check out) reminding people to check their non-primary tabs and folders.
The more technical side of landing in the main inbox has to do with domain authority and authentication. Those are addressed later on within the EBC builder tool (we'll get there).
Something I'll hammer on again and again is the value of taking every opportunity to set expectations. On that note, I'd like to take this moment to set some expectations with you right now...
This course is gonna be packed with action — I want you to DO STUFF and come out the other end with artifacts that can be immediately put to use. Also, every email after this one is gonna be bang on brand. But before we get to all that, I need you to take the two invaluable steps I outlined above... (mostly for psychological reasons).
Down below is a link (don't click it yet, dammit! Keep reading for one sec). When you click the link, it'll take about 70 seconds for the first course email to arrive. The good news: you will have officially started!
Here's where it gets funky - the link is going to take you to a Notion page which has some explicit instructions on how to move me and my emails to your main inbox. Please follow the instructions.
Alright, here's the link. You can click it now.
I'll see you in Notion in a sec.
