Community Focus: Food Access |
|
|
|
There are many people and organizations in Kennett and surrounding areas working to provide food access for neighbors in need, and we are working on ways to partner with and support their efforts this season. This week we are highlighting Jamilah Abdullah, the amazing chef at Kennett Brewing Company, and the work she is doing with Free Food For All in Wilmington.
Jamilah prepares healthy meals once a month with a small group of volunteers, relying on donations to use as much fresh, local, and organic as possible. They distribute these free meals with no questions asked of those they serve.
Donations and more volunteers are needed to sustain and grow this mutual aid effort. Read more about Jamilah and FFFA's mission here, find their GoFundMe page here to help with a delivery vehicle need, and donations for meals/distribution can be sent via Cash App ($jmealz), Venmo (@jmealz), or PayPal (jabdullah96@gmail.com)
Give FFFA.DE a follow on Instagram or Facebook to see more of what they do and how you can help!

Swheat Escape was a guest a couple of times last year, and for 2022 we welcome them as a regular vendor once a month (3rd Fridays only)!
After owner Maddy was diagnosed with celiac disease in 2010, she made it her mission to recreate and master all the treats she missed eating to be completely gluten free. Learn more about Maddy's journey and Swheat Escape here.
“We are excited to be back in Kennett with some new offerings this Spring, including lemon blueberry ricotta muffins, strawberry fritters, and mango lime danish. For our chocolate lovers, we have banana peanut butter chocolate brioche rolls and a "caramel delight" brownie — shortbread crust, brownie center, topped with salted caramel toasted coconut. Also a vegan cherry oat bar. And for kids + a little nostalgia, try our jumbo fruity pebbles muffins!
On the savory side, we have sandwich bread loaves and brioche dinner rolls. If you love to bake, give our all-purpose gluten-free flour blend a try, and check out our 90-recipe cookbook. Everything will be available to order in person, but preorder to ensure you grab your favs before they sell out!"

Location & Parking
Find us in the parking area of The Creamery of Kennett Square @ 401 Birch St. The Creamery is open starting at 4pm on Fridays.

Market Shopping Tips
- Preorders continue to be helpful for both producers & customers, so take advantage of that option as available to secure exactly what you need for the week!

- Masks are not required for vendors or guests, but please wear one as you as you feel most comfortable.
- Well-behaved pups on leash are welcome at market.
- We have a few wagons at market entry to use as you shop, just return to that location when done!
