New Trustee With the vacancy created by longtime board member Julie Hill, Mayor Hogan has appointed a new Trustee to the board. Samantha (Sami) Horner was confirmed at the December 19 City Council meeting and her first Library Board of Trustees meeting is January 19. An administrator for the Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce, Sami is no stranger to downtown or the Library. Here are three Q&As to help you get to know her better before her first meeting.
How long have you lived in Camas?
I was born and raised five miles west of Camas. I spent a lot of my summers as a kid at Lacamas Lake and Top Burger. I bought a house in Camas proper, almost 6 years ago. We were in Fishers Landing before that.
What's your favorite book?
Picking a favorite book is hard! I tend to like biographies. Lucky Man (Michael J. Fox) is one of my favorites. When I was younger I loved To Kill a Mockingbird (Harper Lee) and 1984 (George Orwell). I'm currently trying to read A Promised Land (Barack Obama) but I don't have a lot of time for reading these days. So, it's been a work in progress.
Why did you want to be on the Library Board?
I applied for the library board of trustees because I have recently realized my love of service. I already knew I loved Camas. Also, the Library is near and dear to me. My three kids spent the early part of their childhoods going to that library for storytime. I love the old architecture and the Second Story Gallery too.
