Dear USET/USET SPF Family,
In 2023, USET became a member of the Southeast Climate Adaptation Science Center (CASC) consortium, granting expanded opportunities for collaboration, student development, and funding. The regional Climate Adaptation Science Centers are funded by the US Geological Survey and conducted in partnership with many universities and other organizations across the United States.
Each year, the CASCs solicit proposals for climate adaptation research projects. This proposal solicitation is available only to CASC consortium institutions and USGS scientists. This year, for the first time, USET member Tribal Nations are eligible to apply directly for these funds. Each regional center has distinct priorities that applicants are encouraged to respond to, though all regions explicitly welcome projects focused on Indigenous knowledges and those conducted by or with Tribal Nations. Projects must have a research focus but can also include environmental restoration, community outreach, student programs, and many other possible activities relevant to climate adaptation.
Please see the project solicitation overview for consortium applicants and, if interested in applying, see the science priorities specific to the CASC region that overlaps with your Tribal Nation. Statements of interest (SOIs), which must follow a provided template, are due at 5:00 PM EDT on May 23rd, 2024. For additional information, you may also view the informational webinar held by the Southeast CASC for consortium applicants and email Steph Courtney (scourtney@usetinc.org) and Casey Thornbrugh (cthornbrugh@usetinc.org) with additional questions.
