Happy New Year. Hope 2020 brings you everything you wish for and more.

Hola,

Hope you're rested, recuperated and ready for 2020.

If not, that's cool. I've not slept properly for weeks so getting back to work isn't something I'm looking forward to.

I've burned out before so I'm well aware that rest and healing must be my top priority. If you're not feeling 100% either, be kind to yourself. Do what you can and ignore the "New Year, let's GO!" sentiments from other people.

You do you.

We've got a few things in the Museltter today. Grab a cuppa and have a read.

THINKING IS UNDERRATED

Recently, someone mentioned that they thought I was always working.
That couldn't be further from the truth. When I work, I WORK but when I relax... I'm out walking, watching good movies, I'm reading, I'm learning and my fave thing, hanging out with my entrepreneur buddies talking about business. Yes, my theme is always business and performance but I'm not always "working". My laptop and phone aren't permanently glued to me. This allows me to do another one of my fave things... thinking.

Pushing ideas around my mind AND allowing new thoughts to form.

Thinking is an underrated skill these days. We're always DOING, instead of BEING. Being is purely sitting with yourself and allowing thoughts to come into your mind. Warren Buffet spends most of his days thinking and we all know the outcome of thinking better thoughts, right?

In a world that promotes doing more "stuff" and taking action, how about we create more balance between thinking and doing. Thinking that's productive with new ideas and thoughts being formed in the present and not worrying about the future or fretting about the past. AND then taking the actions which is the product of that thinking.

We have about 5% new thoughts per day. If we don't spend time capturing those thoughts and taking action on them, we're living the same day over and over again.

And to me, that's the worst kinda life.

2020, THE YEAR SOCIAL MEDIA DIES

I've been having some really interesting conversations with some of my most trusted business friends about the state of social media. The overall consensus is that it still has some way to go before it dies but there are rumblings that people are growing tired of it.

Now, I'm not saying it's dead, I'm saying that generally, people are becoming aware of how it's making them feel and how much time it's taking to use.

The general rule is that marketers are hunting for attention. You are in charge of your attention but as we all know, marketers and the engineers behind the platforms we use are clever little buggers. They're using all the tricks in the book to grab more of our attention with endless scrolling and gamification.

However, we don't have to succumb to their devious ways. We can be intentional in our usage.

This year, I'm making my word of the year FOCUS.

I'm using the limited will power I have each day to focus on the things I want and to move away from the things I don't want.

I can't be 100% focused all the time... see above for the idea of taking time off... but when I'm doing something that requires focus, I FOCUS 100%.

The reason I'm mentioning this here is that The Museletter is going to be supercharged this year. I want The Museletter to be something that you give 5-10 minutes to each week, you get something from it, implement it then close the email. Yup, read, action, close your email not scroll to the next thing like on social media.

I'll still be delivering on social media but it won't be a huge amount. Quality (with intention) over quantity. (It's what I already preached. It was the reason why I started my fashion business all those years ago.)

Quality, quality, quality.

All coming from a place of focus and dedication to killing overwhelm for you and preventing you from burning out.

As always... it's over to you... I want to know your intentions for the year and what you think about social media.

So that's all for the Museletter for this week. I'm easing us in gently.

    Big love,

    Carolynne
