2020, THE YEAR SOCIAL MEDIA DIES
I've been having some really interesting conversations with some of my most trusted business friends about the state of social media. The overall consensus is that it still has some way to go before it dies but there are rumblings that people are growing tired of it.
Now, I'm not saying it's dead, I'm saying that generally, people are becoming aware of how it's making them feel and how much time it's taking to use.
The general rule is that marketers are hunting for attention. You are in charge of your attention but as we all know, marketers and the engineers behind the platforms we use are clever little buggers. They're using all the tricks in the book to grab more of our attention with endless scrolling and gamification.
However, we don't have to succumb to their devious ways. We can be intentional in our usage.
This year, I'm making my word of the year FOCUS.
I'm using the limited will power I have each day to focus on the things I want and to move away from the things I don't want.
I can't be 100% focused all the time... see above for the idea of taking time off... but when I'm doing something that requires focus, I FOCUS 100%.
The reason I'm mentioning this here is that The Museletter is going to be supercharged this year. I want The Museletter to be something that you give 5-10 minutes to each week, you get something from it, implement it then close the email. Yup, read, action, close your email not scroll to the next thing like on social media.
I'll still be delivering on social media but it won't be a huge amount. Quality (with intention) over quantity. (It's what I already preached. It was the reason why I started my fashion business all those years ago.)
Quality, quality, quality.
All coming from a place of focus and dedication to killing overwhelm for you and preventing you from burning out.
As always... it's over to you... I want to know your intentions for the year and what you think about social media.
