Hi friend,
This month I'm so glad my health is better, because I'm planning a party!
This Monday April 24th, I turn 50! A week later Hubby turns 60 so we're planning a combined "Siftieth" birthday celebration in San Miguel de Allende! (Yes, we made up a word for it!).
In this newsletter I'll share an update on my writing life and a 35+ book giveaway. (And congrats to Audrey and Cindy, winners of last month's 2 book giveaway.)
Writing Update
The highlight of April has been a week long writer immersion in Texas taught by Margie Lawson, with authors Laura Drake, Rebecca Hodge, and Darynda Jones.
Back in 2016, when I attended my first Margie Lawson immersion, I couldn't have imagined working next to Darynda or Laura, whose writing Margie uses as best-in-class examples of getting emotion on the page.
This week, not only was I at Laura's home in Texas, but my writing was used as an example in the lecture packet!
Definitely a "Look how far I've come!" writer moment.
And if you're not familiar with the three authors I joined in immersion, I encourage you to check them out:
- Darynda Jones has a huge and loyal fan base across her multiple series. Her award-winning Charley Davidson series, starting with First Grave on the Right features a part-time investigator and full time grim-reaper. It's pure, laugh-every-page, steamy escapism. (If you've ever enjoyed a Terry Pratchett book, then this series is must read).
- Laura Drake writes award-winning romance and emotional women's fiction. One of my favorite authors! Her latest novel, Amazing Gracie, just released, and I can't wait until you can read her current work in progress.
- Rebecca Hodge writes heart-pounding women's and crime fiction. Her debut novel, Wildland released the same year as my own, won several awards, and is such an immersive read, just like her 2nd novel, Over the Falls.
In other good news, this month I completed the first 70 pages of the next draft of my second novel, Erasing Grace (which gave me something to work on at the retreat!).
I owe fellow author, Maggie Smith, for helping re-energize me, as explained in this video. Maggie's novel, Truth and Other Lies. is a highly recommended read.
And I continue to relish reader feedback on my own award-winning debut novel, The Exit Strategy. Check below for a couple of recent reviews!
