Newcastle People's Chorus is recruiting new singers – currently coming out of recess due to Covid but please contact the number below, if you are interested – there are a swathe of songs that we are all learning at home so we can be ready when we return to rehearsals in person. No auditions required. We offer you the opportunity to join a well-established, active & performing choir committed to a range of social justice issues. It is one of a network of 10 similar choirs in Australia. Rehearsals are Monday evenings.

Pádraig Ó Cuinn hosts this program on 2RRR with interviews with people involved in local & global music. Guests are invited into a virtual 'pub' to sit on 'The High Stool', & discuss music, musical influences, & whatever they like, with their virtual 'bar-person'.
This week his guest is Peggy Seeger the legendary musician singer/songwriter, activist, archivist, feminist icon, keeper of songs and bad ass! She was monitored by the CIA in the '50s and was threatened with having her passport withdrawn during the McCarthy era! In short, the moniker badass doesn’t even come close!
At the youthful age of 86 her 2021 Album “First Farewell” Won Mojo Magazines Folk Album of the year! In her words “Folk is full of raunchy songs, but they're not often sung”.
After writing the feminist anthem “Gonna be an Engineer” which catapulted her into the feminist movement, she has been at the forefront of the folk movement for decades and is considered as “Folk Royalty”.

For those who are double vaccinated. Ecopella is a Community Choir with a dual purpose - to share the joy of singing together & to make a difference to our planet.
