Tales from the High Stool - 9pm
Pádraig Ó Cuinn hosts this program on 2RRR with interviews with people involved in local & global music. Guests are invited into a virtual 'pub' to sit on 'The High Stool', & discuss music, musical influences, & whatever they like, with their virtual 'bar-person'.
This week his guest is Peggy Seeger the legendary musician singer/songwriter, activist, archivist, feminist icon, keeper of songs and bad ass! She was monitored by the CIA in the '50s and was threatened with having her passport withdrawn during the McCarthy era! In short, the moniker badass doesn’t even come close!
At the youthful age of 86 her 2021 Album “First Farewell” Won Mojo Magazines Folk Album of the year! In her words “Folk is full of raunchy songs, but they're not often sung”.
After writing the feminist anthem “Gonna be an Engineer” which catapulted her into the feminist movement, she has been at the forefront of the folk movement for decades and is considered as “Folk Royalty”.
