Prayer Letter
June 2020

Greetings from the Tanner Family,

James 1:5 says "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."

I find myself praying a lot for wisdom. Life is not always as simple as one would like it to be. And making decisions can be very challenging at times.

As I write this, we are on our way back to Missionary Acres for several weeks. This time, the entire family is traveling, and we are excited to be together. Lord willing, by this evening we will be at the Acres.

When I traveled home from Missouri at the end of May, I thought there would be a quick turn around and we would be back in Missouri last week. We had two churches near Kansas City that we were to present our ministry in on June 14th and June 17th.

God however, had other plans. While getting ready to attend our sending church on June 7th, we received a phone call that we had been exposed to someone in the extended family who was now experiencing symptoms of  COVID-19. They let us know they were heading in to get tested. A few days later, there was some confusion on the test results, so we continued to self-quarantine, just in case.

Thankfully both of the Pastors in Missouri were very gracious to us, and we were able to reschedule our presentations to the end of July. And as another huge blessing, our family member got results back that were negative for COVID-19, and they are starting to feel better from whatever it was they did have. Praise God for that!

Needless to say, we have been praying a lot over the past couple of weeks about medical concerns, but also about what decisions we should make as we plan to travel more this summer as churches across the country open back up.

We have a meeting this coming Sunday in Missouri. After that, we are planning to stay at Missionary Acres for the rest of June and July in between meetings we have scheduled in the surrounding states.

We will finish this trip off with those two rescheduled meetings before heading home in early August.  Then it'll be time to prepare for our fall meetings in the northwest.

We are excited to finally be on the road again and look forward to seeing how God works the rest of this summer.

In Christ,

Bryan & Lisa Tanner & Family

  • Bryan, Jayme, Jeffrey, and Ellie made it home from Missionary Acres safely.
  • We have 10 more churches/meetings scheduled so far for 2020.
  • We have had a safe trip so far on our way down to Missouri.
  • Our current committed support level is up to 16.3%.
  • Lisa's business hasn't yet lost any clients during this pandemic, and continues to provide the income we need so Bryan can focus on contacting churches and preparing sermons.
  • We have been able to stay productive during this down time.
Prayer Requests
  • That the residents and staff currently at Missionary Acres would continue to stay healthy.
  • To continue to connect with Pastors and fill our schedule for 2020. We are praying for 25+ good meetings.
  • That God would raise our support level to 50% or more this year.  YES we still believe that God can accomplish this, in spite COVID-19.
  • For continued safety on the road, we have many miles to drive in the coming months.
  • For continued health for our family.
  • Pray for a cure to Angelman Syndrome (what Owen has). There are some promising clinical trials being conducted right now. To learn more about Angelman Syndrome check out our blog from last year: Preparing for Deputation with a Child with Angelman Syndrome

About once a month we publish a new blog post. This offers a behind the scenes peek at our journey to become missionaries. Here is our latest blog post:

5 Recommended Books for Missionaries

Our mission board asked us to read several books for missionaries during the deputation process. Here is a little more information about five of them.
