We were fortunate to be able to host Laura Loewen at our Guild meeting this week. She provided us with lots of inspiration to take into our own Quilting Journeys. There are some spots available still for her Improv workshop and we would love to have you join us! We will be making an 18” square improv piece and some may actually complete the top during the workshop! If you are a Blue Barn Quilt Guild member please remember to sign in before you purchase your ticket so you get the discounted member rate. If you are not a member of our Guild you are still very welcome to join us! You do not have to be a member to participate in all of the lectures and workshops!

The Jawbreaker Quilt Pattern is a great beginner friendly modern pattern. It is an updated take on a classic block – the flying geese. This pattern marries two of my favourite time saving techniques: strip piecing and the no waste Flying Geese method. Multiple design and material requirement options are provided in all four sizes!
Custom quilt kits available with Liberty of London or Art Gallery Fabrics. Please email to enquire.
Draw appliqué motifs or print them on these handy sheets with an ink-jet printer, fuse the paper to your appliqué fabric, sew on the motif, then just wash away the paper after stitching. Appliqués are soft and flexible without the need to cut your quilt or remove freezer paper. Wash out for a softer end result or simply leave it in…it will soften over time. 15 sheets, 8.5″ x 11″
May 10, 2022; 7:00pm MT: LECTURE: Linda Timms: My Quilting Journey and How I Arrived at the Barn!
I have been creating my whole life and a quilter for more than 25 years, and more recently, a longarm quilter. My passion for quilting led me to open Blue Barn Quilt Co. Inc. as a new chapter in my life approached with all four of my children leaving home. I am very grateful that quilting has played such an integral part of my life, and I consider these opportunities a blessing and a joy.
May 21, 2022; 3-6pm MT: WORKSHOP: Kathy Doughty: Organic Applique
Kathy will be joining us all the way from Australia! Organic Applique is full of ideas for making creative quilts with applique and hand stitching. Bring the book to life in this workshop that supports the book. In this workshop you will enjoy:
a conversation about using fabric
a demonstration of applique techniques using applique paper
have the opportunity to make any quilt from the patterns in the book
Participants will need the book for the patterns. This class is for intermediate levels with some assumed knowledge needed. No pattern is required for this quilt but supplies and basic fabric requirements will be provided upon booking.
June 14, 2022; 7:00pm MT: LECTURE: Jenni Smith: Quilting with Liberty Fabrics
Jenni Smith is a UK-based pattern designer and author of the book Quilting with Liberty Fabrics. Her online video tutorials are loved by makers worldwide. She is very passionate about getting people started on their dressmaking and quilting journeys with her fun, energetic, and down-to- earth approach to teaching. Jenni will give us a front row seat into the world of Liberty Fabrics.
A live, three-hour workshop teaching the technique required to make the Manx Log Cabin, a variation of the traditional Log Cabin block. The workshop is hosted by Jenni Smith and includes friendly instruction and ongoing Q&A. The Manx Log Cabin is unique for many reasons. One of which is that you tear the fabric and use your handspan, fingers, and thumb to measure the block. That added personal touch creates a special kind of connection between the maker and the quilt(s) made with the technique. Plus, it’s good fun, portable, and altogether satisfying.
We are very excited to announce that Jenni Smith and Kay Walsh will be joining us for part of the tour. Jenni will be sharing a special Liberty trunk show with us with some of her quilts from her book!
