Hey Huskies! It’s Gossip Girl...we heard a UConn Marketing student was in New York City this summer. Keep reading to learn more about Lindsey Catlin’s (‘26) internship with AMC Networks!
Lindsey is a Marketing major with a concentration in Digital Marketing and Analytics with a minor in Personal Brand Entrepreneurship. She is incredibly involved with a plethora of clubs and societies at UConn but some of her favorites include Women in Business and Marketing society. This summer, she interned with AMC Networks as a Commercial Revenue Intern under the Distribution team. “My responsibilities included conducting research to back renewal deals with some of our largest partners. I would format the research in Microsoft Excel, then condense and analyze the information to send it out to the team for them to review and utilize going into the deal process,” Lindsey explained. “Distribution works cross functionally with Marketing, Legal, and Finance to ensure our products are distributed for the best consumer experience, as well as generating ample profit for the company.”
During the summer, she got to do foundational research for a deal that would generate a large amount of revenue and have a real impact on the company. Although one of her most exciting moments during the internship, it also taught Lindsey real world skills when negotiating contracts. “I learned how to read and interpret legal contracts. It was especially interesting to me how marketing operations are displayed in contracts between partners, and how that can impact the company as the deal plays out and the marketing world evolves.” She credits UConn for preparing her by “giving a well-rounded foundation of each department through taking the business gen-ed classes. Classes like [BUSN] 3005 helped prepare me for the interview process and encouraged me to network.” BUSN 3005 helped Lindsey join a fashion mentorship program which helped her network, as well. She stresses the importance of networking and meeting new people: “I took advantage of having coffee chats with people at my company and built a large network for myself while I had the opportunity. I talked to coordinators, associates, managers, VPs, EVPs, and even C-suite executives. Each person gave excellent advice, and I could learn about what they do in their roles to help me learn what I'd like to apply for in my job search post grad.”
New York City is an ever-growing hub for entertainment, technology, and finance. Students looking for a summer internship in NYC can check out the Job and Internship Postings List. Lindsey highlighted that her “favorite moment from this experience was getting the opportunity to live in New York City. The opportunities for networking there are beyond valuable to a student aspiring to work in the city in entertainment. Not to mention the amount of fun it was spending the summer in the city and exploring with new friends!” If you have a question, need advice or want to reach out to Lindsey about internships in NYC, she loves to share her experience!
