It’s summer and in many places, it’s hot. In fact, some places such as the Pacific Northwest recently experienced record breaking temperatures.
Unfortunately, we all know this won’t be the last time we hear about record breaking temperatures, so how can we find a way to adapt and make the heat work for us?
One way you can use the heat to your advantage is to air dry your clothes. Air drying clothes not only saves energy and money and lowers your carbon emissions; it also protects your clothes by reducing the wear and tear from the dryer. If you dry your clothes outside, you also can reap the benefits of a clean and fresh smell AND air drying naturally prevents static cling.
It is estimated that a household that runs a dryer 200 times a year can save about 1100 pounds of CO2 emissions a year by ditching the dryer and switching to air drying clothes. That’s equivalent to 56 gallons of gas!
To help get you started, here is a list of drying racks that might work for your household.
