October is my favorite, and I'm so excited to begin the month at my hometown bookstore, Reader's World, in Sedalia, Missouri!

If you're out and about in Sedalia on Saturday, October 1st, I'll be there signing copies of books 1 & 2 from the new Lana spin-off series in the afternoon from 1-3pm. I'll also have some bookies goodies like stickers and magnets, plus a few shot glasses for the early birds!

What I've Been Up To

As far as the writing goes, I'm still plugging away on the Reaping Up With the Joneses customer short stories (including a few extras that I can't wait to share with you!).

The Lulu Puppy

Rug nibbles

But when I'm away from my desk, it's all about playing with the new puppy (who has now taken a tiny bite out of every rug we own, despite having 20+ chew toys) and baking sweet treats with my sweet baby! (I don't care how old he gets--he will always be my baby.) The current favorite are these Maple Sugar Cookies, though there's been a bit of trial and error...

The original recipe called these French toast cookies. We swapped out the corn syrup for some maple syrup from my aunt and uncles maple farm in Iowa, which eliminated the need for the maple flavoring.

Though the recipe claims to yield 18 cookies, that's only if you want them to be the size of tea saucers. For perfectly average-sized cookies, we get about twice that amount. Also, you'll want to space them apart a bit more than 2 inches (as you can probably tell from the picture above).

These are so very good! Even the cramped, misshapen ones. Especially with a cup of coffee in the morning. If you'd like to give them a try, the original recipe can be found here: https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/french-toast-cookies/
