We've got lots of fantastic space themed events happening this month at all libraries linking to the 'Space Chase' Summer Reading Challenge.

The 2019 Summer Reading Challenge will be blasting off in all of our libraries from Saturday, 13 July. 

Children over the age of four can spend the summer exploring the universe with a special space-related reading challenge.

Join us at the Central Library as we get our hands dirty with real scientists

With evening talks by Libby Jackson (UK Space Agency), local science author Brian Clegg, Biochemist Lisa Mullan, local tutor Jetpack Jan and workshops on DNA and astronomy, this is an event not to be missed.

Family Storytime sessions with Cassandra Wye

On 9 and 10 August Cassandra will be bringing together the finest folktales of the Sun, Earth, Moon and Sky as well as giving you the chance to handle real meteorites and a piece of the moon.

Storytime with Mama G

Join Mama G as she takes you on an adventure into space. Mama G will be blasting off to meet the first dog to go into space, discovering what it takes to be an astronaut and introducing you to her new martian friend.

Taran Matharu is visiting the Central Library

On Wednesday, 31 July best-selling author Taran Matharu of the Summoner Series will be speaking about his books as well as running a workshop for budding young writers.

Story and craft sessions

Free drop-in sessions for story and craft workshops.

Free Educational Workshops

Explore Learning will be running free workshops on Tuesdays throughout the summer holiday at Central Library. Each session has a different theme and is suitable for different ages. 

Adult and young persons reading adventure

Explore new books, improve your reading and win prizes. Take part yourself, introduce your work colleagues and get everyone on board.

ArtsWords Writer's Cafe

Meet aspiring and established writers for networking, advice and encouragement at the Central Library on Tuesday, 30 July.

Important library closures. 

Due to essential work to be carried out on the equipment that controls Extended Access some libraries will be closed on the following dates.

  • 16 July: North Swindon Library
  • 17 July: Highworth Library
  • 18 July: West Swindon Library
  • 19 July: Park Library

The work is expected to take no longer than a day at each location and normal opening hours will resume once the works are completed.
