In Greek mythology Ploutos, son of Demeter, was described as the god of wealth originating primarily from agriculture production. Legend has it that Ploutos was blinded by Zeus, so he would distribute wealth indiscriminately and without favor towards the good or the virtuous.
The Project Ploutos, as in the legend, aspires to re-balance the agri-food value chains for the benefit of society and the environment.
Aiming towards more resilient and robust agri-food value chains, Project Ploutos focuses on addressing current value-chain imbalances, by deploying innovations on top of three pilars: behavioural, business and technological.
In contrast to recent approaches where innovations and implementations were tackling on narrow segments of the overall value chain, Ploutos is taking a systems-based approach looking at the overall impact of changes at any point in the value chain, thereby enabling a more comprehensive and in depth understanding.
Furthermore, Ploutos is leveraging on top of :
a) the Ploutos Sustainable Innovation Framework, which is building on an quite unique combination of Behavioural Innovation, Sustainable Collaborative Business Model Innovation and Data-driven Technology Innovation; as well as on b) the Ploutos Innovation academy, where value-chain stakeholders will gain valuable insights through a series of hands-on experiments and practices taking place over the 11 Sustainable Innovation Pilots of the project.
