Comedy at Green Park Brasserie
Green Park Brasserie is hosting a series of comedy nights over the next week. Tonight (19 July, 7pm) sees Dan Tiernan – 2023 Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Newcomer nominee and "Mancunian wild-man" (Guardian) – returning with his second show following a sold-out debut last year. Also appearing tonight at 9pm is BAFTA and Olivier-award expectee Graham Dickson who presents his eagerly anticipated, deeply personal and revelatory one-man show. (Or something like that...)
On Saturday 20 July at 6pm Tiff Stevenson, as seen on Mock the Week, tells you why she'd make a good husband. There are also jokes about her actual husband. Sunday 21 July (6pm) brings musical storyteller Daniel Cainer who previews his 19th Edinburgh Festival show. Then legendary double act Arthur Smith and Phil Nice bring Oof! to the brasserie on Thursday 25 July (8pm). Having beaten the visitation of the grim reaper, they reunite for one final time to celebrate their 40th anniversary.
All to be enjoyed in the brasserie, with the kitchen offering delicious, locally sourced food and the bar serving cocktails, coffees wines and beers until 10pm Wednesday to Saturday.

WEEKEND RECIPES | OODLES OF NOODLES
|
|
|
|
Words by Melissa Blease
Chicken & Leek Carbonara
This lighthearted version of traditional Carbonara is great for using up leftover roast chicken and moves from hob to table in around 20 minutes. To make a vegetarian version, replace the chicken with 200g sliced, pan-fried mushrooms and opt for a vegetarian alternative to Parmesan.
But whatever you do, don't waste those egg whites! Seal them in an airtight container and either store them in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze them for when the next meringue-mood hits.
Ingredients (serves 2)
1 tbsp butter 175g leeks, finely sliced 1 large garlic clove, peeled and crushed 150g roast chicken, shredded 150g linguine or spaghetti 3 medium egg yolks The zest of ½ lemon Dijon mustard (to taste) 30g Parmesan, finely grated, plus extra to serve
Method
Melt the butter in a large frying pan and gently sauté the leeks for 5 around minutes, or until soft but not coloured. Add the garlic and the chicken to the pan and sauté for a further 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is piping hot.
Meanwhile, cook the pasta according to the instructions on the packet and whisk the egg yolks with the Parmesan.
Drain the cooked pasta, reserving 3-4 tbsp of the cooking water. Slowly whisk the reserved pasta water into the egg yolk mixture. Take the sauté pan off the heat, add the pasta to the chicken and leek mixture, then add the egg mixture, the lemon zest and the mustard. Toss with tongs for a couple of minutes until a glossy sauce has coated the strands of pasta (the residual heat in the pan will cook the egg yolks).
Divide between warm bowls and serve straight away, topped with extra Parmesan and plenty of freshly ground black pepper.

Il Rose di Casanova, La Spinetta | £21.00
Inspired by Provencal Rosés, the Rivettis decided to produce one rosé from their porfolio. The fascinating characteristics of Sangiovese and Prugnolo Gentile, permitted a wine that shows great character, an intense aroma, and which is very pleasant to drink. It has a floral and fruity bouquet with hints of citrus and Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it is wonderfully fresh and delicate with satisfying minerality and an all-embracing acidity.

|
Alìe Rosé, Frescobaldi | £21.50
A graceful, delicate rosé, made from Syrah and Vermentino grapes grown in the seaside vineyards of Maremma and treated with utmost gentleness. It has an intense fruit character that belies its pale colour, offering up exuberant ripe pear aromas. In the mouth, however, it is utterly classy and dry, with a zippy, refreshing briskness.

Curated by Daniel McCabe
Morgenmete is a magazine about the first meal of the day: breakfast. Published out of Atlanta, Georgia (USA), it explores the absurdity of life through the setting of breakfast with 'deep stories, syrupy reads and hot dishes' combining personal essays, short fiction, long-form features, photo spreads, recipes, illustration and much more. This issue, titled 'Always Connected’, argues that the breakfast table is the best lens through which to examine our shared screen-based culture and looks at how being so ‘extremely online’ (as they put it) impacts on what used to a more meditative, getting-your-thoughts-together-to-face-the-day time. | £20
