Dear USET/USET SPF Family,
The White House has issued a Dear Tribal Leader Letter
announcing a Tribal consultation on a nature-based solutions report. This report is a directive of President Biden’s Executive Order 14072, “Strengthening the Nation’s Forests, Communities, and Local Economies”, which recognizes the significance of nature to sustain plant and animal life to combat climate and biodiversity crises. The compiling of this report will be led by the White House’s Office of Science and Technology Policy, Council on Environmental Quality, and Domestic Climate Policy Office.
This nature-based solutions report will identify opportunities for greater utilization of nature‐based solutions across the federal government, including through potential policy, guidance, and program changes. The federal members of this initiative recognize that the ideas shared in the report may affect Tribal Nations and acknowledge the experience Tribal communities have in applying nature‐based solutions, which often provide other communities and federal agencies with examples and advances.
Details regarding this upcoming Tribal consultation are as follows—
