The Cleveland Buddhst Temple Sangha knows well this Japanese word – bonbu. I am bonbu, a foolish human being full of greed, anger and ingorance. If you think you are not bonbu, just be aware of how you feel when you don’t get what you want. If you think you are not bonbu, just
be aware of how you react when others do not do what you expect them to do. If you think you are not bonbu, then why are you sad, or anxious, or worried or…?
Amida Buddha’s 18 Vow is meant for us, the bonbus of this world. When we open ourselves to the call of Amida Buddha is when we begin to understand just how bonbu we are. It is then that we express deep gratitude for being embraced, never to be let go of, regardless, and begin to see the world in a different way.
