Hi friends,
How are you? To be honest, I’m absolutely brain-dead after 3 weeks of project works, design meetings, plus solid writing of my first e-book on 'Top 3 powerful ways to use design to achieve innovation & business growth'.
Through the process of creating it I realised one thing that is massively important for completing any project, team activity or task. Having systems and flexible tools.
Overall, the steps to create an ebook in 21 days were relatively easy. That's because having a system upfront took away all the 'small blockers' that would usually get in the way of momentum and productivity. Things such as, what should I write about? How long should it be? How many chapters? Where can I get it proofread / edited etc? Having a system laid out in advance gave me leverage to decide on content and focus.
So if you have a project, task or something that needs completing but finding yourself stuck or it's dragging. Ask yourself, have you got a clear system or plan that you're following? If so, then highlight what are the blockers or bottlenecks slowing you down?
One of the main issues in business and design is the follow through after decisions are made. This is where things get difficult. So, if you are one of the subscribers to this newsletter who has been thinking about starting a new product idea, testing a product idea, or doing a creative side project but haven’t yet, here’s a challenge for you - Sit and write down the next 2-3 steps you need to take to get to 'the next stage'. Simplify these steps into big areas. You can always do a first round, leave it for a day, then come back to add the micro details to it later. Try to plan out your time, tools needed and key things to do at each step. Once done and happy, if you like, take a picture and send to me, or post it on Instagram/Twitter and tag me, I will try to give it a look.
This approach doesn’t just apply to new product/design ideas - it applies to basically everything in life. If you can find some way to organise and plan 2 steps ahead, you are much more likely to reach your goal.
