LETTER OF SEEDS AND GROWTH

Dear Friends,

As we continuously learn from Nature, a well conceived and planted seed can survive years of unfriendly conditions, to finally give life to a splendid flower or tree, in its full potential and beauty in the ceaseless cycle of life. Nature is never defeated, as its creative force is supreme and transcendent.

When in 2019 we “planted” the seed of Kalpa, no one expected the turbulent times ahead. And yet, the gallery born of passion and love for beauty and art, continues to adapt, grow and expand. During the last year we dedicated our time to inspiring new projects: art consultancy, interior design and branding, amplifying our experience and sowing our vision of art living. And now with the warmth of the Tuscan summer sun we can finally welcome you back to our galleries and exhibitions in the majestic Etruscan Volterra and its glorious surroundings.

More than ever we are looking for elegance, purity and harmony. Drawing inspiration from the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, the artworks we present are the sign of an emotional process between the artist and Nature. In our galleries and exhibitions we are welcoming many new extraordinary artworks and artists working with organic materials like wood, clay, raw earth, stone or alabaster. Encompassing a universal language, at Kalpa artists address ideas of intimacy, balance and finesse, as well as an intuitive dialogue between finito and non-finito.

We are thrilled to present the art installation SEEDS | SEMI, featuring works by Sabine Pagliarulo and Olga Niescier, on the ground floor of the monumental Palazzo dei Priori in Volterra. 

SEEDS | SEMI is a reflection on the idea of the seed and sowing as a driving force of life, a beginning without closure, a message for the moment. The viewer is invited to enter a novel space and to silently savour the fruits of this enchanted garden, slowly approaching its centre along the artists’ prescribed path. The installation represents an encounter of Pagliarulo and Niescier’ artistic sensibilities: an organic intertwining of silver wires, studded with myriad alabaster flakes, embracing a refined, soft-colour ceramic sculptural group. The exhibition, until August 8th, is curated by Kalpa Art Living and organised by Anima Silvae Cultural Association. It enjoys the patronage of Regione Toscana and the Municipality of Volterra, and the support of Locatelli Saline di Volterra.

SALINA DI VOLTERRA

RECOMMENDED ART LIVING EXPERIENCES AROUND VOLTERRA

The Salina di Volterra is one-of-a-kind cultural experience in the surroundings of Volterra, and of Kalpa's most fascinating recent collaborations. The salt mines of Volterra have been cultivated since the time of the Etruscans, and have long been considered a precious economic resource for the territory. The Salina, created at the behest of Grand Duke Leopoldo in the XVIII century to increase salt production, today covers an area of ​​about 65,000 square meters where in the order of 150,000 tons of crystallized salt, 99.99% pure, is produced. The plant can be visited, including a cultural itinerary that traces the history of the Salina from the State Monopoly until the present day. Recently hosting experimental cultural events, Salina is working with Kalpa to present itself as a new ideal place for contemporary art experiences.
