There are interviews... and there is this. If you read only one piece of NomadMania content from the past 10 years, please let it be this.

Lebanese-born Roberto Helou was nominated for a NomadMania Award in 2023 for best digital creator for his entertaining, educational and always sincere coverage of his extensive bicycle ride from Egypt down to the tip of Eastern Africa all the way to Cape Town.

He could have been nominated for intrepid or even for biggest traveller, and given his social conscience and empathy, quite possibly for the Most Purposeful Traveller award as well.

Given that Roberto is clearly a terrific all-rounder, this impressively mature traveller has a story to tell. As part of our overlanding month, we are very happy to present this impressive interview about his journey (click to read).

Visit Upper Mustang, Nepal

Talking about nominations, a clear nominee for one of the most mysterious and visit-worthy places in the world is Upper Mustang (confusingly also known as Lo Manthang) in the northern expanses of central-western Nepal.

This is where Nepali and Tibetan cultures merge; given the general situation in Tibet, it may also be the best place to experience Tibetan culture at the moment. Founded in 1380, one thing is for certain: this is a historical, authentic kingdom that has only recently come into contact with the modern world.

While most travellers either hike on a super-slow expedition or fly to Jomsom airport, a mere 50 kms away, and then have a quick look at this incredible place, our expedition will aim to strike a balance. We will be driving from Pokhara and gradually ascending, both acclimatising to the altitude and gradually sensing the transition from Nepali to Tibetan culture.

So what are you waiting for? Join our expedition to Upper Mustang!

New UN Masters

Recently two of our members visited their 193th country, becoming UN Masters. Join us in celebrating this achievement of Newton Losi from Brazil and Christopher Pullan from the UK.

Afghanistan was the final country for both travellers. Congrats :-)
