QUESTION & ANSWERS WITH JOHN BOWLER AKA HOWARD RADCLIFF

John Bowler AKA Howard ‘Hedgehog’ Radcliff played the stereotypical upper-class Architect at odds with the seven working class tradesmen.

Johns character featured in many unforgettable scenes and one-liners throughout Series 2 involving ‘percolators’, ‘sesame seed bars’, ‘hedgehogs’ ‘BMW’s’ and ‘red sun glasses’.

Team member Andy Patrick caught up with John following his sell out performance of Patrick Marber’s ‘The Red Lion’ alongside Stephen Tompkinson (DCI Banks, Drop the Dead Donkey) and Dean Bone (Vera) at Newcastle’s ‘Live Theatre’.

Such was the success of the play; The Live Theatre’s production has recently transferred to London’s ‘Trafalgar Studios 2’ from November the 1st to December 2nd 2017. For more information and to buy your tickets visit www.atgtickets.com/shows/the-red-lion/trafalgar-studios

We asked John how he got the role in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, what he thought of Series 1 and what were his fondest memories whilst filming on set.

Are You A Winner...?

Back in April 2017 we launched a new competition and asked fans to picture themselves wearing their BridgeNorth tee-shirts beside the Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge. We were certainly impressed with the number of entries and the efforts some fans went to!

The team at the Official Auf Wiedersehen, Pet Fansite would like to thank each and every entrant and congratulate Brendan Atkinson from Washington who was chosen at random from competition entries. If Brendan is reading this, then drop us a line at BridgeNorth@awpet.com to claim your prize!

MIND THAT SNAKE THERE MOXEY! FILM PROPS & MEMORABILIA

Filming props and memorabilia from the 80’s are rare and hard to come by but you can imagine our surprise when an anonymous fan discovered an old weathered timber bench wasting away at ‘Thornely Manor’ AKA ‘Beesthorpe Hall’.

Several episodes throughout Series 2 saw the lads enjoying a tea break around a fire whilst converting Thornely Manor into an old people home for crook and villain Ally Fraser. The bench on which the Oz and Neville sit (pictured above) was recently discovered in the undergrowth at Beesthorpe Hall within close proximity of where filming took place and has since been verified as original following extensive examination.

We’ve been assured the bench is in safe hands now in private ownership and is being restore to its former glory by its new proud owner.

Were you present when Auf Wiedersehen, Pet was filmed? Do you have any memorabilia from the show? Do you have any stories to share? Well we’d love to hear from you! Get in touch with the team via our contacts page here.
