It's the 10th Anniversary of the film Boyhood, written and directed by Richard Linklater, starring Patricia Arquette, Ellar Coltrane, Lorelei Linklater and Ethan Hawke. The film won an Oscar, along with its staggering 175 other festival wins. It's the most recent film to have a score of 100 out of 100 on Metacritic and is the best reviewed film released in the 21st century so far.
It had a meagre budget of only $4 million and was filmed over 10 years, starting in 2002 and finishing in 2013. The cast and crew would gather once or twice a year to film for three or four days over those years.
Synopsis: The joys and pitfalls of growing up are seen through the eyes of a child named Mason, his parents and his sister. Vignettes, filmed with the same cast over the course of 12 years, capture family meals, road trips, birthday parties, graduations and other important milestones. Songs from Coldplay, Arcade Fire and other artists capture the time period. Directed by Richard Linklater.
