1. Politicians neglecting disabled voters

The general election is upon us (or in your rearview mirror, if you're reading this on Saturday). In any case, it seems an appropriate time to share the widespread feeling amongst disabled people that they just don't matter to politicians.

Research by Sense also shows little optimism about the future, no matter which party wins.

2. DFG needs reform

Many topics will be vying for top spot in ministerial in-trays, but surely one strong contender must be the failing housing sector, and particularly the plight of disabled people who routinely face years living in unsuitable accommodation due to the lack of accessible homes.

If it worked as it should, the Disabled Facilities Grant would enable people to have their current home adapted to meet their needs - but in practice a parliamentary committee has found that it is very hit and miss, with many applicants simply dropping out because it's too slow and complicated.

3. Accessible hygiene rooms

Independent Living site subscriber Multicare Medical has recently launched a new guide to help schools, architects and OTs get ready for the new academic year with the successful provision of an accessible hygiene room.

Worry about disruption to service and difficulty comparing the different packages offered by providers are two major factors, according to new research from Uswitch.

5. Bariatric seating webinar

Independent Living site subscriber Vivid Care has another useful free webinar coming up - Mastering Seating Assessments for Bariatric Patients.
