5-week online course
Dr Peter Crawford has been providing HM Classics Academy students with a whistle-stop tour of the history of ancient Rome.
Next term, starting on Tuesday 26th April, Peter will teach a short course focussing on a dynasty of emperors which arose to rule the Roman Empire, in the wake of the demise of the Roman Republic.
Over the course of nearly a century (31BC-68AD), the Julio-Claudian family presided over an autocratic regime of military expansion (with the occasional disaster), intrigue, rebellion, assassinations, powerful women, poisoned mushrooms, a horse as consul, murder by collapsible boat… and more than a sprinkle of madness… all tied to together by an extremely complicated family tree.
Join us in a look at the reigns of the five men – Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius and Nero – who made up Rome’s first imperial dynasty through primary and secondary material.
Classes will be conducted via Zoom on Tuesdays, 19:00-20:00 (GMT+1) on 26th April, 3rd May, 10th May, 17th May and 24th May.
Fee: £35. Tutor: Dr Peter Crawford.
