Principal’s Comments:

Dear Parents and Friends of the School,

Thank you for your support of Kapa Haka on Saturday when once again they performed with distinction at Bayswater School’s Matariki Festival. For our first major performance of the year, they were very good. Thank you Mrs Levitt, Whaea Vesna and Ms Von Sturmer for all of your work.

As you are aware tomorrow is a new public holiday, celebrating Matariki. Therefore school is closed tomorrow.

I hope our Year 6 netball girls enjoyed their tournament on Wednesday. Netball is a very popular sport amongst our children and I love to see their progress as they move through the grades. We also had an exciting clash of Year 6 miniball last week where the two teams played against each other in a very competitive game. It was a game of two halves and the winning shot was a 3 pointer near the buzzer. It was great to hear about the sportsmanship after the game and the following day.

Our senior students are enjoying their Trash to Fashion project. I am loving the creativity and am looking forward to the parade next week.

You should have received an email from the school regarding 'TaxGift'. Your school donation each year is essential to our school operating the way it does. If you currently do not claim your tax back on this donation or would prefer the school to receive this tax rebate, please follow the instructions in the email or on our school website to set this up. We really appreciate your support.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge your work at home to support our learning programmes and values. I keep getting lovely comments from staff, other parents and visitors about how respectful, kind and considerate the children are.

Old iPads Available

We have a number of old iPads from 2014 and earlier, without chargers, that we no longer use. We are open to passing them on to members of our school community in return for a donation to the school. Please contact me if you are interested - lesleyc@belmont.school.nz

PTA Update | Upcoming Calendar Date

Thanks to everyone who made it along to our Parent Evening on 8 June. It was a great night and a really good chance to catch up with other parents. A big thanks too to Matt Bruce, who kindly donated some of the drinks for the evening (and who we forgot to thank on the night)!

We have a Kids' Pie Day coming up on Tuesday 5 July, where you can order a pie for your child's lunch. An email will come out about that next week.

Also, make sure you put our 'Spring Fiesta' parents' night into your calendar - Saturday 10 September. It'll be a fun night out, featuring a live band, drinks and food. More details to come, including how to buy tickets.

FREE FEAST / HAKARI AND MATARIKI WORKSHOPS, June 26

The Rose Centre Theatre and Community Centre, 4 School Road, Belmont, welcomes the local community to a Matariki Free Family Event organised for Sunday 26 June with Free workshops:  Wellness for the community is a large part of our celebration day with local  Yoga teachers Purnima and Julie Richardson, Reflexology, Acting workshop with Rose Centre Manager Geoff Allen, Rubbings with sculptor Natanahira Pono, Hat making workshop for kids , Harp – Celtic music to Waiata with Robyn Goudge,  local band Whistlefish and local musicians, Te Reo with Mark Rainy and drumming workshops culminating in a Hakari feast and short performance for our local community and neighbourhood.
