OP General Assembly Meeting |
On April 08th, 2022, IOP had an Annual General Meeting. The attendees were the IOP members and the invited guests from different Government sectors from the village level to district level and representatives from NGOs and Private sectors. The General Meeting had two important tasks. To receive, discuss, comment and approve the Annual Narrative and Financial Reports from the Board and going through the implementation of the 2021 GA resolutions.

Furthermore, the GA was requested to delegate some roles to the Board including the addition of new Board members. The reports, the resolutions for GA 2021 and the delegation were all approved. Despite the challenges that IOP faced in 2021, including COVID-19, successes in implementing the project like the renovation of Ilula & Isoliwaya primary schools and construction of Visada primary school, the Sponsor Program, the schools, the sports club, the IOP Center and others, were celebrated. These successes were possible due to the very committed support from the staff, Volunteers, donors and IOP Outside Committees. Thanks to all for their unique support despite the Global Pandemic Challenge.

Apart from going through what has been accomplished by IOP and areas for improvements, various invited guests showed their appreciation of what IOP is doing. It was stipulated that IOP is doing many activities that were supposed to be done by the Government like helping the Most Vulnerable Children, building schools, helping elders and young mothers and many others. All these were done by IOP through supporters from inside and outside Tanzania. The District Administrative Secretary appreciated both the IOP management and the staff for the good works.

RENOVATION OF THE LIBRARY TOILET AND STORE |
In order to make sure the users of IOP library (Holland House of Book) enjoy the service, IOP continue to make improvement of the environments, both in and outside the library. This time, library toilet renovation was a priority. Through the support of Tsh 3,000,000/= from Tessa Gruijter, a volunteer from the Netherlands, installation of water tank, supply of water in the toilet, installation of new sinks, hand washing sinks, fixing of new ceiling board and painting was made possible.

The renovation done changed and added the value of the library as Library users have an improved toilet system. The library remains an important service for the Ilula Community as different people get access to different books. There are more things to be completed including paving of access paths and the walkway from the library’s door. IOP would like to thank all supporters for making this possible.

CRAFT WORK WITH CENTER GIRLS |
“Victoria and Benjamin have set the challenge of doing crafts with the IOP girls. Every Wednesday around 4pm, we meet at the center and make all kinds of crafts. Sometimes simple drawings that we offer around us to please or thank for a service. We also decorate the doors of the rooms with many drawings. The girls are learning to use their little fingers and their creativity. They are getting better every week and are (I think) really looking forward to this moment. It's a lot of fun for children and grown-ups. We have made twins out of toilet paper rolls, paper baubles, scoubidous, pompoms and many other things. Everything is done in a good mood, chatting and listening to some music.”

On Saturday, 16th
April, the Senior citizens of the Ilula Township got an early Easter gift. The seniors gathered at IOP library (the Holland House of Books) socialize and partake into few activities.
In the First activity, the seniors learned about how to build relationships with their local community, and this was done by comparing ideas and having some practical sessions. They also learned how to teach the younger up and the coming generations and how to pass on their learned wisdom in an age where when one has a question, the solution is looked up online.
The second activity was to paint a picture. These proved quite challenging for some as they had never learned to write nor were they particularly predisposed to art. Through gentle guidance from committee members who were overseeing the meeting, everyone finished the activity with pictures of his/her own.
After that, photos were taken and they then were able to join in on a raffle. The lucky winners won hats, and overcoats. The gifts were sent by Berit Skaare who is very passionate and a pioneer to the project.

All senior citizens were given meat, rice and a fizzy drink which was quite the meal for the seniors as they have not had these in a long time. Then to end the day off, the seniors were given a coupon to receive 1kg of rice and sugar.
They then went home and the seniors that lived too far away were ferried home by the IOP Car. Big thanks to all supporters who make this possible.

“Not Just Some Place We Are Going To, but a Place We Are Creating Together” |
Ilula Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) is affiliated with the World YWCA as a branch within Tanzania YWCA. Ilula YWCA branch was opened by Ilula Orphan Program (IOP) in 2012. On 23rd April 2022, 3 people (LynnChristine G. Isote, Adam Mtilizi, and Eliza Mganule) went to Dar Es Salaam to participate in the commemoration of World YWCA Day for 2022 which is celebrated each year on 24th April. Since 24th April 2022 was on Sunday, YWCA members suggested conducting the event on 23rd April 2022. 90 members attended the event.
The event was guided by the theme, “Just Some Place We Are Going To, but a Place We Are Creating Together” which is a co-creating goal for 2035 by the World YWCA. Different branches of YWCA attended the event. These branches were YWCA Dodoma, YWCA Dar Es Salaam, YWCA Morogoro, and YWCA ILULA. During the event, several things were conducted including, inspirational testimony from grown-up members (old ladies) of YWCA who stayed with YWCA Tanzania for more than 30 years of their lives.
Dorothy Massawe (a member of YWCA) said “I joined YWCA when I was still a young girl who had just finished school. I got to know other women who helped me in various areas particularly in expanding my network and building meaningful relationships with people I was living with. I got the chance to travel to different Countries and be able to live in new areas with new people and accomplish a goal. YWCA has impacted my life in so many ways but mostly is confidence in myself and I’m not afraid to take any position as a leader”
Grace Mtawali (a member of YWCA) explained the greeting or salutation of YWCA as “with love saving one another”. This has been a focus in the entire work of YWCA to the communities from the National to the International level. People are served without any kind of discrimination in terms of gender, race, education, or religious background. Young people are still given priority in the work of YWCA whereby the empowerment programs focus on providing life skills education, leadership, and human rights has continued to be provided all over the world through the YWCA network.
