GUYANA: Granger declines Presidents’ meeting – Demands Govt address series of concerns first

Dec 12, 2020 – Kaieteur News – Former President David Granger has declined an invitation from President Dr. Irfaan Ali to attend a State House lunch to discuss inclusive governance, Guyana’s development, and the way forward.

He registered his effective refusal in a letter, demanding that the government address certain issues and defer the Presidents’ meeting until after those issues are taken care of. The meeting is set to occur on Tuesday, December 15.        Continue reading →

TRAVEL: JetBlue touches down at CJIA with 150 passengers non-stop from NYC

At approximately 10.03 pm  on December 11, 2020 JetBlue officially commenced nonstop service between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Guyana’s Cheddi Jagan International (CJIA) with the first roundtrip flight arriving back in New York on December 12, 2020.

The new service operates up to four times weekly on JetBlue’s Airbus A321neo aircraft.

One hundred and fifty passengers were on board JetBlue’s first official flight to Guyana, according to a release from CJIA.    Continue reading →

International Court of Justice (ICJ) to rule on Venezuela/Guyana border issue on December 18. 2020

The Guyana/ Venezuela Border issue lies in the hands of the ICJ

 Dec 12, 2020 – Kaieteur News  – The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is set to deliver its judgment on the question of its jurisdiction in the case concerning the Arbitral Award of 3 October 1899 between Guyana and Venezuela at 3:00 p.m on December 18, 2020.

According to an official communiqué from the ICJ, President of the ICJ, Judge Abdulqawi Ahmed Yusuf, will read out the Court’s decision at the Peace Palace in Hague, Netherlands during which, in view of the current COVID-19 pandemic, only members of the Court and representatives of the parties will be present in the Great Hall of Justice.

BOOK: My Guyana Jungle Adventures – By Lisbeth Cameron

This book is about my daily life in the Guyana bush during the early 1970’s. 

My husband worked for the Guyana Geological Surveys and Mines Department and at that time there were regular expeditions, made possible by the director Dr. Sobraham Singh, to the interior to map the geology and explore for minerals, and wives were allowed to accompany their husbands.

In my case I was joined by my cats and parrots. Most expeditions were by boat from Bartica to the Essequibo, Cuyuni and Mazaruni rivers. Each was fully equipped with everything that could be needed and food supplies could be supplemented by fishing and hunting.
