This week we turn the spotlight on silent reflux. Most of us have experienced the discomfort of acid reflux (‘heartburn’) at some point. Silent reflux is a condition that is less obvious and harder to diagnose than acid reflux. But if left unaddressed, silent reflux can cause long-term damage to the tissues of the oesophagus, throat and larynx.
Reflux, silent or otherwise, affects an estimated 5-10% of children and up to 50% of babies. It is an uncomfortable condition that can lead to chronic inflammation of the mucosal lining of the throat and oesophagus.
In this week's newsletter and blog post, I examine some of the causes of silent reflux and explain how you can recognise signs of the condition in your child. I also share many strategies to help you naturally manage silent reflux, including a wonderful traditional remedy, Siberian pine nut oil (see Food of the Week below).
If you or your child has persistent digestive or respiratory symptoms for which you have not been able to identify the root cause, working with a reputable practitioner can help to determine whether silent reflux may be a factor and guide you in finding effective relief.
