The Goodness Of God
Stephen Heleman

Each week we will start our study of who God is by saying this prayer, "God, I want to see you as you are, the real God."

The Battle

Everyone who follows Christ is in a battle for who or what gets priority in our heart and in our life. Luke 9:23 says, And he said to all, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me."  Jesus was telling the people that if they were going to follow Him, they needed to be all in. As Christians, we tell ourselves that we are all in, but we often fall for the lie from our enemy that God is holding back from us and doesn't want the best for us. We are afraid that if we are all in with Christ, we might miss out on something this world has that is better.

How do we make sure we don't fall for this destructive lie?

Embrace the goodness of God.  Read Exodus 33:18-19 and Psalm 84:11.
Only when we fully embrace the goodness of God are we able to understand that we can trust Him and know that He only wants the best for us. Even when we go through difficulty, God is working it for our good.

So, I challenge you to Look For The Goodness Of God.

  • In His creation. This world is not just functional; He made it beautiful for us to enjoy.
  • In people. God created us for relationships.
  • In His protection and guidance. We all have times in our lives when we can look back and realize that despite our actions, God brought us through.
  • In His Son, Jesus. Romans 8:32 There is no clearer picture of God's goodness than the sacrifice of His Son for us.

If God Is Good...

What is keeping you from being all in? Seek the goodness of God!
