ART FROM KALPA GALLERIES IN "MATERIAL HOME" EXHIBITION BY ELLE DECOR ITALIA

Explore the curated selection of artworks presented by the KALPA Galleries in Material Home exhibition at Palazzo Bovara, presenting an all-around investigation of the concept of matter in its many forms in the broad terrains of art, design and interior design.

In accord with the core of the exhibition by Elle Decor Italia organised for Milan Design Week 2024, KALPA is pleased to introduce a constellation of contemporary wood and ceramic sculptures embodying an earthy feeling as well as organic shapes and textures. Embracing the spirit of wabi-sabi and reflecting the Galleries' vision, organic artworks by Janine Thüngen-Reichenbach (Italy/Germany), Jojo Corväiá (Germany), Yoshimi Futamura (France/Japan), Sabine Pagliarulo (Italy/France) and Marco Bellini (Italy), suffuse the spirit of Palazzo Bovara with their conceptual and aesthetic content, and emerge as accents of colour and form, to create a cohesive narrative throughout the exhibition journey.

Taking inspiration from the contrasts and juxtapositions found in humans, nature, time and space, Italy-based Janine Thüngen-Reichenbach presents two delicate sculptural bas-reliefs in washi paper whose texture comes from impressions taken from the walls of pre-Christian catacombs in Rome.

Jojo Corväiá is an American ceramicist working between Germany and France, whose research is founded principles of instinct and freedom. Working entirely manually, he creates abstract, asymmetric and imperfect forms in Japanese clay, to bring out the hidden inner beauty, materiality and irregularity of each piece.

Japanese ceramicist Yoshimi Futamura's geologically inspired sculptures embody a perfect balance between Occidental abstraction and Asian art and philosophy, featuring natural and organic textures, which are key to evoking an instinctive memory of our origin and belonging to Nature as living beings.

Following aesthetic minimalism, Italo-French Sabine Pagliarulo creates essential and archetypal forms in stoneware and porcelain, capable of releasing both energy and tension from the matter itself, as well as alluding to a sentiment of rebirth and protection.

Italian woodturner Marco Bellini uses a variety of techniques, guided by the specific shapes, fragilities and features of wood. As an invitation to connect ourselves with the deepest part of our soul, his sculptures are archaic and evocative of primordial times and of the timeless form of the vessel.
